Hi everyone, 3 years into Credit and was looking to get my first Amex card. I went to their "Prequal Website" and prequalified for the "Blue Cash Everyday Card", the "Blue Cash Preferred" and the "Gold Card", I want to get the "Blue Cash Everyday" because it meets my current needs and also to get my foot in the door with them.Later down the line I plan to upgrade to the "Gold Card". My Equifax is 704, my Experian is 690, and my TransUnion is 667😪. I plan on waiting an extra couple months cause I do have one hard inquiry from December. My question is, am I in a good position to pull the trigger or should I wait a bit longer until I get enough history?

Hi and welcome
It's really not a "game" but that's conversation for another time.
Yes, they will approve thin and young files, but they like clean files when it comes to core cards.
Since your credit history is short, your scores should be a bit higher. What's keeping them down?
Also, you cannot upgrade core card to gold card. If that's the plan, back to the drawing board
Well TransUnion is there at 667 due to a hard inquiry in December and I only have one credit card that only reports to Equifax(704) and Experian(690). Another reason why TransUnion has my score low is because of my short length of credit history, 3 years and 7 months...that's what they claim when I look at my score for them. Paying down my student loans should get me higher though.
If you really have no negatives, pull the trigger.
Don't expect too much in terms of starting limit but I think you will be approved.
Thanks I appreciate your advice
Amex prequals are pretty solid, so I'd imagine you are okay to proceed, given your other data points.
Yes, AMEX is one of the better banks when it comes to thin credit file approvals.
I got a PRG (equivalent to the current Gold card) in 2014 with 6.5 months of history on one card ($600 CL) and 2 months on another ($2k CL, joint account). But my scores were in the 740s (since I was being compared to other thin file people). I feel like there's more to the report to get scores under 700? High utilization?
No High Utilization, it's 0% actually. I only have one credit card that reports to only Experian(690) and Equifax(704). Meanwhile TransUnion(667) doesn't get any reports besides my student loans which I pay on every now and then. 0% credit utilization might be a reason I could get denied, I'm unsure. Also, in my report for TransUnion(667) I have 1 hard inquiry from December and they claim my credit history is short which is 3 years and 7 months. As for
Equifax(704) and Experian(690), they claim I have very few credit cards and the date I opened my last card was too recent.
