Does Amex convert/upgrade cards without an HP?

If you are taking an upgrade offer in the same lineup such as Delta Gold to Delta Platinum, the card account is the same, only the features and AF change. There is no HP. A new card will be issued, with the new graphics, and my experience is the card account number stays the same.

Thanks.  Same lineup. My mom and I were trying to figure out if the AF could actually be worth it for the Blue Cash Preferred if we both used it more so than we do. Apparently even one of the websites I frequently use for supplemrnts is considered a grocery store. lol. Something to look into after this current Disco promo ends.

I'd suggest holding off on it. I recently had an offer to upgrade my BCE to a BCP for no annual fee the first year, 0% APR on purchases for 12 months, and $150 statement credit after spending $2000 in 90 days - bonus isn't great but the waived fee and 0% are so I took the offer. I got no hard inquiry, but if you ask for an upgrade there could be, although I've read that Amex is doing soft pulls for new cards if you already have an Amex card, so I'm not totally sure but I think asking for an upgrade would probably not generate a hard inquiry - but I'd recommend waiting for the upgrade offer.

In the meantime, groceries is in category for the Discover It and the Chase Freedom right now. The Discover It can be had for a soft pull if you apply through the Discover prequalification page and will give you 10% back to groceries in Q2 this year, but if you're under 5/24 and don't mind a hard pull, you can get the Chase Freedom.

The BCP is worth more than the BCE if you spend more than $3,167 at grocery stores in a year.  Below that amount, the BCE is better.

Does the SP apply for the Discover it Miles card too? Been thinking about another card with disco, but wanting to stay away from HP ATM.

How often do offers for upgrades come along? I’m new to AMEX and have the Delta Gold Skymiles but i wouldn’t mind upgrading to the Platinum Skymiles. I have had my card for two months.

Keep in mind the CARD act will limit your ability to make any upgrade or product change resulting in an increased annual fee. They've offered me to upgrade my BCE since the day I activated it but can't actually do so until August when it hits 12 months old.

I was going to ask the same on how long it takes for an upgrade offer. I didn't actually receive an offer. I was just asking.

I already have Discover and their promo ends in June.  My one year mark for Amex won't be until October so I'll see what happens and  update if/when I decide to do it.
