In 2007 when I was a just turned 18 senior in high school I received a pre approval offer for a BOA card, I applied online and a week later I had $750 in my little hands...well I was living on my own and used the card for food and paid the minimum until Jan 2008 when I moved, the card was practically maxed out at that point and I never updated my billing address and just stopped paying. They charged the account off for $1003 and about 3 years ago I paid it off through a collections agency.
Now I am 24 years old, and very aware of my credit report. I was after the Better Balance Rewards Card and I am wondering if BOA will ever take me back? Or do they blacklist forever.
I burned em in 2008 as well. That baddie is still on my reports in fact. But yet they just approved me for the $99/500 secured card via a counteroffer. So yeah they seem somewhat forgiving. I obviously wasn't blacklisted, but they did deny me for the card that I wanted. Of course on my report it looks rather silly having a $500 secured card next to a $7-15k limit cards but I really wanted the 321 rewards. (I can't get Barclay's cards in my state.) I don't know if they'd give you an unsecured BB Rewards card right off the bat or not.

Most creditors are like spurned girlfriends (or boyfriends); they may forgive, but they will NEVER, ever forget!!! LOL.
I burned BOA back in 2004 (CO) for ~$3000; but eventually paid the debt. Had not applied for anything with them since until this spring....instantly approved for a BOA Travel Rewards VS.
So yes, they do forgive.
Good luck!

I applied for a BOA card like 8 months ago...the reason for denial was "Previous unpaid debt", no CRA was pulled and they didn't counter offer..I wonder if I should try again soon.
I burned them in 2004 on two accounts for almost 5k.. they approved me this March for 4k on their travel rewards, matching my highest limit at the time (the combination of my two Cap 1 cards back then was 4k). We discussed what happened on recon and they were very understanding. Told me CLI's and new apps would most likely always instantly be denied because of the burn, but on recon they saw I had fixed things and were happy to have me back. The card started w/ 2k and 1 month later they increased to 4k when i called them.
Edited for typos like always.
Yes they forgiving, I let an BofA original visa go to collections in 09 ( a 500 CL that end up 909). I paid it off a year and managed to qualify for another card (fully secured 300 card). A year later I got the card unsecured with a 500 CL. And from that limit I requested a 10CLI and got it through backdoor number. So to answer your question, yes they're very forgiving but you'll have to prove yourself to them as they really don't care creditors unles of course you have 750+ credit score.
Not sure if this makes a difference but I did have a bank account with them even after the first card going to collections so relationship make take part in my case.

I also burned them in 2009, and was recently approved for a $99/500 card through a counteroffer. I know what you mean about having a $500 limit next to larger limits. I have $3k, $4k and $8k cards on my profile. However, I'm glad that BOA is giving me my first chance back in with a prime bank, and the account should hopefully unsecure in10-12 months.

I don't even mind the $500 showing up next to larger limits. Some crappy creditors are just going to be like that forever. (Cap One *cough* Victoria's *cough*) It's the big ol' "SECURED" part that bothers me, and opened just recently. Amex has gotta be thinking, "Is this the kind of guy we want around??". Hehe. If I was one of my creditors I'd be very confused about what's really going on.

My situation was similar to those...the timeline is different of course...
I've been a banking customer with them this whole time....have had the same checking account since the Fleet days except for a couple of account number changes due to fraud or whatever.
So yeah...they do have a memory...kinda long. You can get back in with them eventually, though.
