Does CAP1 Allow You To PC QS1 Cards?

I didn’t realize when I got the QS1 that it may be a bucket card. I just finished the steps program and it should go from $300->$500. Thinking now that may be it

Had I known I would have gotten the Platinum. Now I don’t want 3 hard pulls. Any suggestions on how others have handled it? I don’t want to close it out now.

I plan to close the OpenSky Card as soon as I pay that off this time ($15). That will make Discover my only secured card. Thanks.

It's not a dead end but it's apparently going to be very difficult to try and get out of. Your best chance is to call customer service and see what options if any are available for you. Supposedly even getting the card to the VentureOne is an easier path to eventually getting the QS; some people use that route just to get out of paying the AF of the QS1 and use their other cards til another product change becomes possible to QS or even the Savor cards depending on which one you want to go for

Re: Does CAP1 Allow You To PC QS1 Cards?

Thanks @simplynoir. I’m going to keep using it. I have been thinking recently that it’s probably going to be a bucket card @ $500.

I will try calling to see what my options are. I wouldn’t have a big problem with the AF if they don’t bucket the card. Only because I have zero issues with them. I guess at some point I will hate that AF.

Thanks

When your annual fee is due, call in to CSR to ask for courtesy waiver. I think you have to wait for the fee to post first.

CLI is on a 6 month rotation.

Most cards that has Platimun on the back from Cap1 is usually their bucket card. Wish you would have come here before you app'ed. Plat was the way to go then PC. QS1 is a brick I call it. If you cant get an upgrade. Some get their AF waived each year. Good Luck!

Re: Does CAP1 Allow You To PC QS1 Cards?

I opened 1 QSI May 2014 and another QS1 in Sept 2016.

I too wanted away from the AF's. 1st one started as $1000 card in the beginning, two CLI's to $3K (2 $1000 cli's after 12 months each)

In May this year I followed some good advice here and grabbed a V1 upgrade, and was lucky enough for a CLI to 6K with the V1 PC.

I am not a miles guy so I took a good hit on rewards, BUT...

yesterday, after 4 months of use (@25% util -> PIF each month) I saw a QS upgrade using the upgrade link found here in the forum to the QS!

So mission accomplished, to get the QS back on track for the 1.5% for my general spending that isnt covered elsewhere @ 3% w/ NO AF's

The 2nd card started with a SL of $500 , 4 mos later  CLI to $2500 limit --  recently had he AF billed ($39) and as mentioned here...  called and received a refund or credit of the fee after it had billed.  A ton of good advice in this forum for sure!

Since the fee is behind me and I have 8 months or so before it comes back around I am hoping to use the same method - (@25% util -> PIF each month)  to try and score either a 2nd QS or hopefully account combinations will be available and marry them up.

Thats what I did, thats what happened...  so anything seems possible with a little usage.  My usage has been some Dining, a ton of Merchandise purchases using Rakuten for additional kickbacks...  maybe a Verizon bill here and there, but for sure PIF monthly.

Good Luck!

Re: Does CAP1 Allow You To PC QS1 Cards?

Thank you @HighCountry for laying out your path to PC to another card. I think I will call them. Right now my card shows processing from the $300 -> $500.

On the prequalify site it still shows the QS1 and the Platinum. I’m not going to take a triple pull for the Platinum.

At least I know there is a path to PC to another card. I’m not interested in the miles either so I hate to give up the rewards.

Thanks your response has been a help!

Re: Does CAP1 Allow You To PC QS1 Cards?

You are absolutly welcome!  Everything I did I learned here, time and usage seems to be the guiding principle.  I am a big believer that what you use the card for is as important as how you pay...  its all profiled.  Thats not talked about much here though...

Re: Does CAP1 Allow You To PC QS1 Cards?

Thanks @AllZero maybe I will try that. I love the card. Even if it’s a bucket card I would keep if they waive the AF.

Definitely keep using the card. You don't have to use it a lot, but do use it at least once each and every month. You may pay right after charging if you'd like; there's no need to post a positive statement balance. Also, call in or chat each month to see if you have upgrade offers. I can't guarantee if this will work for you, but I was able to PC (product change) two QS1s after 12 or 13 consecutive months of usage.
