I called Capital One today and was originally told I was not eligible and I asked to speak to the manager becasue my payment history was flawless. I spoke with the manager and before I could say a word she told me I was immediately and automatically approved for $500 increase. When that hits my CBR will that automatically improve my scores as long as i dont use the additional credit?
Also my Macy's Card went from $400 to $600 automatically I guess.
It will only improve your score if it changes your utilization threshold - I'm not sure if anyone knows exactly what those thresholds are but I think people have estimated them to be round numbers (ie 10%, 20% etc).
Maybe someone can provide more color on the exact threshold estimates
Congrats on the CLIs!
Your credit lines don't, in themselves, have any effect on your scores - it's your utilization that counts. So if you get a CLI and it results in your reported % utilization moving, say, from 50% to 8%, then that would definitely improve your scores. That's true for both overall utilization and individual (ie per card) utilization. If your utilization is already at zero, though, or if the CLIs don't change your utilization enough, then your scores won't change from the CLI alone.
Hope that makes sense!
