I want to close my Citi AAdvantage card because the AF is about to hit and I don't use it. I called to cancel and to shift my CL over to my Double Cash and they said they don't do that. Maybe because it's a Sunday night and late? Does Citi combine lines? I thought they did.
Thanks.

They do but often you have to get a supervisory CSR and it will be an HP to do so.

Thanks. I won't take a HP though, so I might as well just close it.

Yea, I wouldn't take a HP to combine credit lines either. You can call in and see if they will give you a retention offer to offset the AF.
If you want to avoid the AF, PC to a thank you card or another double cash. No hard pull
Or as another poster stated, ask for a retention offer. I've had them offset the entire annual fee in the past after a certain spend in 90 days.

+1 PC is another option if there is a card you want and don't mind about missing out on the signup.
There is a Bronze card - no AF and only earns 1/2 of the miles, but it may be a solution for you - you can PC w/o a HP.

Perfect! I'll probably do this. Thanks!
They do offer CL consolidations without a HP, but not all the time. Of all the Citi cards I've closed, I was offered to move the CL onto another card without a HP half the time.
