I have just about had it with Discover. I have called three CSR's over the past two days to ask about enrolling in the double cash back promotion. But they have all refused, stating that it's only for new card members. They then try to get me to apply for the Discover Miles card right there. I have tried to tell them that I know other current cardmembers have successfully enrolled but they never have an answer.
What else do I have to do to get enrolled? I feel like I'm pulling teeth here. I submitted a SM online to see if that does the trick.
And don't get me started on SP CLI's. I was under the impression that the LUV button for most people is very flexible and some people are cashing in on it once or twice each month. Meanwhile, I am still sitting at $3,300 (Discover randomly gave me a $300 auto cli a few months back). And any time I try the LUV button, I keep getting the 3-5 days message that I have requested too soon. But I haven't requested in over two months (if you count the time Discover gave me an auto-CLI). My last initiated CLI was probably back in March.
Is there any way to address this or am I just out of luck? I'm about to pull my hair out with them and have considered just closing it since I get my quarterly categories from my Chase Freedom anyway. But I hate to close the door on them since I have liked their customer service (for the most part).
Yep they hate you.
Seriously though I think more likely is that they let in some people on the promo when it first came out but it's since been closed to existing card holders. I haven't heard of other people getting signed up for it recently so I don't think you're alone there. Regarding the CLI for whatever reason they don't seem to like your profile. Some issuers are like that we can't be darlings in everyone's eyes. Relax and go look at cool images of pluto and remeber how none of this means anything.
There was a deadline for existing cardmembers to enroll in the double cash promo. That deadline has passed, which is why the CSR's are refusing. They're just doing their job.
The CLI button stopped working for most of us early last month. With the exception of a handful, we've all been getting denials since then.
Ugh, that sucks regarding the limited promotion. I was not aware of that caveat.
But thanks for clearing that up!
Guess I'll keep the Discover in the SD for the time being. ![]()
That's the spirit
Punish their greedy inconsiderate behinds! I actually got in on the promo for double and am still kind of pissed at them. Lousy CS every time I contact. I just prefer to use my citi card. I don't do much lowes/home depot so they're getting my amazon spend and not much else.

There was a huge thread floating around for several days. It's one of those you snooze, you lose things.

Plenty of cardholders are still using them despite whether existing cardholders were able to jump on the double rewards promotion bandwagon or not. While you or the OP's wallet may not chose to carry their card, thousands and thousands of others do. So, trust me, Discover isn't really feeling any sense of "punishment" let alone hurting their bottom line ![]()

You're absolutely right. No reason to get emotional about anything regarding CC's. It's just business. That part I understand. I'm disappointed that I missed the opportunity for the double rewards, but that's my fault for snoozing during the promo.
As for the lack of CLI's, it's just been par for the course for me with Discover. As previously said, they clearly just don't like my credit profile (and that's their choice). It just stinks because I generally have liked Discover's customer service aside from the aforementioned areas. ![]()

+1
The double cash back offer was quickly changed from open to all card members to just new members. They can change the promotion terms to people who have not yet signed up at any time. Unfortunately, you are a little late. Discover also changed their CLI policy for frequent SP increases. Now they have a 90 day or 6 month wait period (not sure which). I have not asked for a CLI on my Discover card as my limit is high enough for my use, but I did read a thread about the change in policy in this forum a few weeks back. Discover does not hate you. Your timing is just bad this time around. All of us will miss some nice offers and get other offers. It is just part of life.
Don't make a choice on using a card or not based on their refusal to give you an offer. Use the card with the best rewards, benefits and perks for you for any given transaction. Not being in the double cash back program will reduce its usefulness, but if the Discover card is the best card for a purchase, use it.
