Does a CC have to report CL limit to CRCs?

I checked my parents CR for them nad noticed that their highest CL card, a Citi AA Advantage card with a CL of 55k and 23k balance, is only reported as the 23k balance on the CR, all three TU, EXP, EQ. This of course is killing their util, and showing as if that is a 100% of the limit is being used. I want to know if anyone knows if the CC company HAS to privede CR companies with the Limit on the card. Because if they report the limit my parents score would jump quite a bit, and of course their overall util would be closer to like 22%, right now at like 80% since this is not reporting credit limit, please help with suggestions.....

Re: Does a CC have to report CL limit to CRCs?

There have been a number of posts on here regarding very high limit credit cards (>25k) as not reporting limits. My recollection is that these were posted by nyccc2 and some others (do a search on high limit credit cards).

There are also a very large number of posts on the signature cards with no preset limit. Some of these report a limit and some do not. So unfortunately, I believe the answer to your question is that the cc are not required to report the limit. Of course, your folks could call their ccc and see if they will report.

Cheers

The Citi AAadvantage card has a no preset spending limit so only the highest balance is reported.  The only way the true CL would report is if the card was maxed out (not recommended). To answer your question, most CCCs with these types of cards do not report the CL.  I did a product change last year to another Citi card last year because of this.

Re: Does a CC have to report CL limit to CRCs?

That is so weird, i mean this is really hurting my parents credit, they apped for a new BofA card and only got a 5k CL, I'm sure that if BofA saw that they have a 55k line with citi, they would be willing to increase that 5k, and they also got a 5k CLD from Amex because of it (in my opinion, Amex told them their util on other accounts was too high). When I went online with my mom to their citi card it says Credit Limit 55k so it does have a limit, just doesn't report it, and their high balance she told me was like 40k once, and that is not reported either, not even a payment is reported, it just reports the current balance and the open date of the account. I'm gonna have my mom call them on monday (tomorrow) to see what they say. Cause she wanted to add me as an AU on this account so I can get the benefits of having a 55K limit card on my account and the 10 years of history, but if doesnt report the 55k, i def dont want just the 20k+or- in debt on there, lol.

Truth be told, no CCC is required to report your CL. Or balance. Or anything else for that matter. Legally they could report nothing, as if you didn't even have an account... if they wanted to. The legal requirement is that if they DO report something, it must be accurate.

Re: Does a CC have to report CL limit to CRCs?

So basically as long as they report that the account is open, and that the balance is correct and the start dates, and so on are right, they don't have to report anything else. That sucks. I searched around the forum and found some other threads regarding this matter, so I'm gonna have my mom call them today, that seems better than disputing the account through CRs.
