eesh, just do what I do. I just tell them I already have one. Simple. Whether it's Macy's, Best Buy, or any other retailer. Gets them off my back without having to be rude or forceful and they don't feel bad about not being able to get me to apply for one.
Yea I usually just tell them I already have one too. My first job was retail so I know that they have quotas to meet so it doesn't necessarily annoy me.
I dont see it at Walmart but in Kohls, Macy's, and other reatailers in the mall it synonymous with thanks and have a great day!! "they always say dont worry, you still get the discount!" I always turn them down. What they dont tell folks is it you get dings galore if you do an app everytime they ask. It drives me crazy.
Nah, to me life is too short to get excited about something like this.

The woman at Macy's was pushing pretty hard a week ago to get my daughter to open one. I know it is just their job to ask but I just get tired of them asking all of the time anyway. No....I don't want their cards! LOL
Just venting....
LOL, I get annoyed.. Specially JCPenney and Target..
I just tell them I have a bad horrible credit or my wife already has a card.
"I already have enough cards" is simple. I know they have to ask and I don't fault employees for asking once.
If they persist, I might make a point of paying with Amex Platinum (in the eyes of the average person a highly exclusive card).
And, really, I don't shop much at those stores in the first place. Most of my clothes come from Brooks Brothers (where I have the card already), Costco, or internet shopping.
