Re: Does anyone have credit cards from two credit unions?

I'm not sure why OP is calling out CUs especially, the same considerations apply when deciding which bank cards to go for.   There are certainly a lot of CUs (but many will be ruled out because of membership rules) but  basically look for an issuer that meets your goals, whether CU, bank, or your local payday loan store (well, probably not that one!)

On a national, open membership level, Penfed,NASA,DCU are some popular ones. Also check locally. If you have any way possible to be eligible for NFCU, by all means you would want to join. Smiley Wink

Thanks so much, baller! Smiley Happy I joined PenFed and have two cards with them. I am not apping now, but really curious about having memberships and relationships with more than one credit union.

Re: Does anyone have credit cards from two credit unions?

I love credit unions and have joined eight since filing BK 7.

Most credit unions' rewards programs really suck.  It's like the old S&H green stamps where you can choose a gift from the catalogue after you earn a million points.

The most coveted rewards programs are for either true airline miles, preferably where you can earn them on Chase or AMEX and then transfer them to one of 50 different airlines for a business class ticket (value up to 10 cents a mile/dollarspent) or a true 2% cash back card like Citi double cash or Fidelity AMEX.

I think Penfed has a 2% back on gas, but unless you are a long haul trucker, I don't think that is very exciting.

What I love most about credit union cards is the high limits, low rates, and sometimes very cool designs.  I can't wait till I can get a NASA card with the night rocket launch.  Very, very cool.

Also, credit unions want you to use their cards so they are not as likely to decrease your credit lines and balance chase you if you need to carry a balance.

Very interesting...My knowlege of credit unions as a whole would fill a thimble Smiley Happy even though I have joined PenFed. I was hoping this thread would enlighten me and it really  has. I appreciate everyone's responses.

+1000. Banks shine as far as rewards. But, CUs are more loyal to their members.

Also Penfed's gas card is 5% if you have a qualifying product as well. As simple as getting a $25 money market acct.

I find that higher tiered credit unions do much better in their offerings... especially the ones in D.C.

Right,  Penfed is one the rare CUs where the rewards are actually very good.   Uncapped 5% off gas (and other cards with grocery rewards for example, but less stellar).  Another standout is Secure Services FCU, where their card gives 3.3% off gas, travel and dining  (https://www.ssfcu.org/en-us/loans-credit/credit-cards/Pages/default.aspx) but this is very geographically restricted.

Yes LTL. Even I tried to join SSFCU and I wasn't eligible and I live in Texas. But only certain parts of Texas qualify. Smiley Sad

Re: Does anyone have credit cards from two credit unions?

I dont. But I would like to. And as much trash talk as I do about capital one venture, its looking like its a good idea to have a big limit cap1 product just in case (SORRY DAVID RAMSEY)

I was left with a bad taste after trying for a credit union. I was instant approved with nasa, low apr, over 20k limit. Then after weeks and weeks of phone calls, turning in paperwork, etc, they send me an adverse action letter and DENY me. But its fine, I get it, I was moving along too quickly adding cards. But still. I dont like that they approved me and then pushed me around all that time.

I want to one day have a credit union card with a 15k+ limit with low APR and no rewards. Guess 93k income aint good enough.
