Off cycle reporting is an exception and not usually done on request. Typically you need a valid reason such as being in the mortgage process because it costs them money to do so. In addition, some lenders will list it as a dispute and note your file on the bureaus as such so one should be careful. While discover may have done it in the past, there's no guarantee they would continue. Sounds like they want to review your file.

I got an email after I requested it and it said dispute. I didn't want a dispute and was annoyed and called back and the rep told me that's what they call an off-cycle report request!! What? That makes no sense.

Then I asked for it to be canceled was told it couldn't be canceled!! But the rep noted my account I didn't want it now and was told that would suffice.

Anyways, never again gonna ask for an off-cycle report with Cap1. Heck No!!

Td Bank is the same way. They report it as a dispute and it takes about 3 weeks to update.

In three weeks would it matter?

Not really. Just an issue if you're looking to rapid rescore

Sorry.

FYI, Chase does happen to report  off cycle when balances are paid.

Does chase actually report when balances are paid? I just got a CSR, paid it immediately after my first statement cut, and it has not updated my balance (in experian at least) for like a month

@MikeyMagic,  I wouldn't be too hard on the reps.  You basically called them asking for a different company's product.  It's not surprising that they didn't understand what you were asking for.

Chase reports off-cycle whenever the balance on the card is paid down to zero.  They've done this on both of the cards I have with them for as long as I've kept track, and I think the off-cycle update usually happens the day after I pay.

Absolutely Chase reports $0 card balances. I paid in full on 2/27 and it reported to CB's on 2/28.

Weird, I paid in full the day my first statement cut and it has not yet reported. Hopefully after another statement or two they will start doing this for me as well.

Similar happened to me last year when Rocket (formerly Quicken) transferred our mortgage to Chase in June or July. October rolls around and Chase still wasn't reporting so I called and asked what's the problem? Chase started reporting about a week later. Try giving them a call to inquire if a glitch might be happening for your new account.

So I called the Sapphire Reserve line today and they told me that they explicity do not do off cycle reporting as described here, so I'm a bit confused. The rep (who seemed very knowledgeable and knew immediately what I was talking about) said that statements cut on the 11th, and they report once a month on the 12th with no exceptions, payments will not trigger any additional reporting at all. She said the only way to get such a payment reported (a post-statement cut payment) is for it to be made from a Chase checking account on exactly the 11th when your statement cuts, since that will process same day before the report on the 12th. 3rd Party bank payments will take 2-3 days and wont post in time to be reported on the 12th.

Now, I'm sure you could pay down your entire balance off statement cycle a few days before the 12th to report whatever you want, but this is kind of discouraging to me as I am used to the behavior described above with most of my other cards where a payment triggers an almost immediate reporting of my new balance.

Re: Don't ever try to ask for an off-cycle report with a Capital One Credit Card

I find capital one's support to be impossible to deal with as well.  They seem to have reps that are barely trained in credit card specifics, and they latch on to one phrase i use out of a few sentences worth of explaining.  Then i always have to try and stop them in the middle of some high-speed rambling script that's only loosely related to that one phrase they identified as a keyword.  The quality of their phone system in india or phillipines is kinda poor as well I can barely hear them amidst all of the compression.  I'm guessing that's how we sound to them too which probably contributes to the struggle.
