Re: Done with Amex

I gotta agree with the poster above. The charge cards just aren't worth it if you don't spend a lot or if there isn't a benefit to offset the price. My marriott rewards gives me a free room. So I'm getting something more than I'm giving. I could live with a 35 dollar charge just to keep the age.

Does anyone know if the sr. green still as NPSL and just as important is it eligible for the offers? I got a few sweet ones like the Amazon one, the smart n final one and would definitely keep the card for 35 bucks as the card would end up giving me dividends on my small investment lol

As far as I know, the Senior Green is still a standard charge card with NPSL.  Albeit, with the $35 AF you kill the MR rewards option.  As far as the offers/promo deals, such as Verizon, Amazon, etc., I would think they would still offer them but I am not sure.  Perhaps someone who has a Senior Green can chime in on that.

From my understanding AMEX will always do a hard pull.

Re: Done with Amex

From my understanding I'm not available for the downgrade but I am for the gold and platinum upgrade. My annual fee hits on May I'll use up the smart and final account credits and cancel. Totally turned off from dealing with AMEX and their poorly staffed international call centers.

Sad to see you leave the Amex family.

Re: Done with Amex

I am too but I gave it an honest effort. I applied for the everyday declined, I tried to see if they would work on waiving the fee or downgrading me they refused. The charge card unfortunately isn't worth it where I don't spend anything on it anymore. Guess my freedom and IT card will do for now. does anyone know if AMEX sends out sweet we want you back offers to former members?

Re: Done with Amex

No idea yet haven't gotten the letter. Just saw the decline and was furious. since like an earlier poster said just based on income and fico I should have been in. Ah well its their loss I was trying to save the relationship by getting a no fee card. Oh well I'm still young I'm sure I'll see them again when all more scores are 700+

Re: Done with Amex

Something is missing here. Give us an overview of your credit profile, amount of credit history, accounts you have and how old they are, current utilization, any prior late payments on your Green Card?  How many inquiries in the past 6 months?

Did you call to try and recon with them on the ED card? You need to do that. Tell them you would like to upgrade to the PRG and have an ED as a revolver as well. Negotiate!

You will always get a hard pull when you apply for a new card with any lender. Don't let this just be about an AF.

You don't always get a hardpull when you apply with amex. being a current member. i think back in december. i apped for the bcp. declined. cited. lenth of time being amex member. i only had my other 2 cards a month. and yes. it was a softpull decline.so. without any data backing me up it appears maybe 70-30 softpulls for current members. as ive only seen a few declines actually get hp. remember. im talking about current amex members only. anyone else hardpull. and if approved. hardpull for current members.
