You certainly don't have to use it for everything, and I probably won't for big ticket items (and there's a $3K limit on the debit card as well it seems)   I think a number of people are using it for bill pay (and via plastiq) where credit card protections wouldn't apply much.

Exactly! I don't like carrying a debit card in my wallet and just use the PP Debit/Cashback MC for mortgage via Plastiq and monthly bills like utilities and insurance, more then enough. And I think if you ran thousands through the combo monthly it might set off some warning lights at PayPal.

Agreed. Even though I charge a few K monthly, I only use it to pay bills. I don’t purchase products, travel or anything I can have better protection on with my other cards.
Basically, it’s just for charges I wasn’t getting any rewards on because those bills had to be paid by check or cash like mortgage, car payments, landscaping, daycare, etc.
At least, 0.5% is better than nothing.

On AMAZON if you reload your gift card balance you can essentially get 5% with this combo.

2% CB that Amazon gives you reloading gift card balance through a debit card

3% using paypal combo

Obviously, easier than that for Amazon would be to get 5% with the Amazon prime card...any idea if the 2% back for gift card reload works with Amazon prime or Amazon business prime cards, to get 7% back?

The Amazon extra 2% requires using a debit card, so probably not usable with a 5% credit card   (I haven't tried but assume it won't work if you buy a V/MC gift card at a supermarket and try to set that up as a debit card)

Have you tried this yourself yet?

Amazon runs debit cards as PIN-less debit (not credit) unless you dig around in your Amazon account and manually change the setting to 'credit' (there's a check-box), in which case it would seem you wouldn't get the extra 2% they give for debit loads. 

While I do have the Paypal Business Debit card I don't have a Paypal Mastercard so I can't try it myself.  In the past, any transactions I ran as PIN-less debit didn't earn rewards, though.  Perhaps this has changed.

I get 5x UR on Amazon by using my Ink Cash to buy Amazon gift cards at office Depot. The flip side is you're using gift cards for the actual purchase so you don't get the same purchasr protections you'd get by using a credit card.

Also I thought he Amazon 2% back on reloads only works with checking accounts, which would exclude stacking it with the PayPal business debit card.

The 2% does say linking with a debit card, so that should work, but as UncleB says, probably only as pinless debit, so you wouldn't get the 1%.  But this could still be 4% (2% from Amazon, 2% from PPCB card) for those that don't have something better.
