Did anyone hear about Discover’s new debit card that also offers 1% back? Maybe this could be an alternative.
How so? The Discover debit card doesn't allow for any sources of backup funding at all since it's linked to the owner's Discover checking account. Insufficient funds would result in a $30 fee instead of a 3% cashback.
I got that same terms update email and still nothing about losing the 3%.
3 more days until we find out the fate of this.
Figures that I got a collection in the mail that charges a 2% fee for paying with credit card that I’m disputing the amounts and dragging out so I can get them to agree to a lower amount for PFD. I could have earned 2% for using the debit (they specifically say they bill it as ACH debit, not credit so I wouldn’t get the 3%) instead of 0.
Still no letter or any indication of any kind on my PayPal by the way.
While I am hoping for the best, I think the updated section on the site about what can be backup funding (just a bank account) means the change is coming for all. Maybe not all of us will be impacted Mar 11 (although I still suspect we will be), but sooner or later. Now if that's say Dec 31 2099, fine!

I have no doubt the change is coming but they’re going to get themselves in a lot of trouble if they don’t send messages to everyone about this change and then zap their bank accounts.

They wont zap the bank account, merely decline the debit charge for insufficient funds (unless you have already set up the bank for backup, in which case not a problem)

As long as they don’t make my checking the backup funding source, I’m good.
Maybe they'll make it for new people only... Those who already have it setup can keep it. Wait, this isn't a cell provider or anything... No grandfathering...
I guess except having a paypal business debit, I have an old premier account (never upgraded/downgraded from personal<>business) and the PBD, which I've had since they introduced them. I just added an AU on the PBD as well two weeks ago so it's fine.
