While I am hoping for the best, I think the updated section on the site about what can be backup funding (just a bank account) means the change is coming for all.   Maybe not all of us will be impacted Mar 11 (although I still suspect we will be), but sooner or later.   Now if that's say Dec 31 2099, fine!

I have no doubt the change is coming but they’re going to get themselves in a lot of trouble if they don’t send messages to everyone about this change and then zap their bank accounts.

They wont zap the bank account, merely decline the debit charge for insufficient funds (unless you have already set up the bank for backup, in which case not a problem)

As long as they don’t make my checking the backup funding source, I’m good.

I was looking at the debit card settings the other day, there is an option for "don't use a backup" - I'm going to set mine to that tomorrow and avoid any surprises.

Glad that option is there. I’m going to leave mine alone and see if the card gets removed. I don’t have any non-category spend right now anyway and if I do get slapped with this collection bill I’ll check PayPal before charging it to see the funding source and whether I’m going to earn 2% or not.

Re: Earn 3% on everything using one card - RECENT UPDATE

Today is the day and I am still seeing my credit card as a backup.

I didn't receive the email though.

Same here (and I successfully made a transaction)   Could someone who DID receive the email let us know?

Maybe they’re just going after the obvious MS’ers. There were people running thousands a month through this combo after all...

Everything is fine for me thusfar, though it could have meant "last day" but still. Also anyone who has preemptively changed it to no backup, can you change it back? I'd just hawk it the next few days, maybe we'll get lucky and it won't auto change it, just take the option away if not set.

Saeren,

I like your theory of them targeting abusers.

So far we haven't heard from those who received the email.

I guess we will see what happens. Could happen later today, could happen tomorrow, but I can’t see PayPal not sending an email before removing the backup funding. It’s just asking for pissed off customers blowing up customer service when they can’t pay for their morning coffee.

I didn't get the email, but just in case, I made payments before the deadline. I hope my account isn't affected after today.
I've been running a minimum of $4k a month and up to a little over $8k only on bills I can't use a credit card for. No MS or any purchases on the card. Just bills.

Here I am! I got the email Feb. 14, and it says "David, the backup funding source for your PayPal Business Debit Card is no longer supported - please update by March 11, 2019" (underline emphasis mine) By March 11 could mean they'll remove the Cashback MC later today or tomorrow. I did leave it as backup, I decided to do one last payment, my electric bill yesterday, and as it's still pending I thought it best to leave the CB MC as backup.

I doubt they would a limited change in policy, it would lead to a bunch of complaints - "Why can't I have my MC as backup?, my cousin Joey still has his!!!". And I was one who received the first batch of emails, and in all humility I was hardly an abuser, I averaged around $700-800 per month just using it for monthly bills. When DoC posted the change in the comments some folks had been running several thousands monthly through it buying gift cards and paying everything possible through Plastiq.

Well, we shall see. The backup funding charges on the MC say "San Jose CA", and it's not yet 7am on the west coast.
