Re: Earn 3% on everything using one card - RECENT UPDATE

I got the original email on Feb. 14 with the March 11 end date, I just now received the new email with the March 18 date. I guess they figured out they missed emailing a bunch of folks. But for those who got the original email we got almost a month to plan ahead and make adjustments, you newbies get a whole week. Time to go shopping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right, just got the new email.   But even us newbies suspected that the end was near, just hoped otherwise.

I will probably keep using the PPMC as it has no FTF and no min redemption, unlike my other two 2% cards (Fid and DC)

Yep got the email too.

Oh well, I got what I needed done and now I’ll cancel the debit. Don’t need that crap coming out of my checking if somebody commits fraud. No thank you!

Oh yeah, I think the PPMC is one of the best 2% on anything cards out there, it's definitely a keeper. I killed my Penfed Power Cash Rewards card & checking account when I got the PPMC. The additional 1% from PP Debit was just a little extra icing on the cake.

@AnonymousJust set the PP Debit to "no backup funding" and all the fraudsters will get is a declined transaction unless you're foolish enough to leave cash sitting around in PP Balance. But yeah, since you need $1 ($100 spend) to get any rewards it will be pretty much useless. But I do use the PP Debit to sweep cash out of my PP Balance, like the PPMC rewards and occaisional eBay sales.

I noted at least for me, it lets me select "No Backup" along with the MC and Bank. So after it changes, you can simply swap it to no backup, just means it will decline if you don't have enough in your paypal. I might keep it around linked to my bank account for the times I require a debit card. I would rather swipe the ppbd than my bank debit card. If anyone DOES get my ppbd info, I immediately get emails about a spend, and can instantly nuke it from my phone. My bank debit card does not notify me, plus ppbd transactions can get caught in pending instead of draining the bank account directly.

Yeah I will set it as no backup funding rather than cancel it. There are some transactions that have to run debit for no fee (case in point the transaction I made today to pay off the collection agency would have cost me 2% if I used a credit card) and I would rather use the PayPal card than have to use a bank debit (especially since I canceled my bank debit lol).

If this change happens for all I am guessing that many will stop using the debit card and paypal will lose their portion of the swipe fee, so there is some point in targetting.   So this might be for totally different reasons, such as the arrangement isn't profitable enough (we don't know how Sync and Paypal cooperate here!)

Well, it turns out I will be using the debit card for some things after all.   It turns out when I added my debit card as an autopay method, Verizon gave me a $5 a month discount (this is FiOS).  That's a little more than I would get with a 2% card (I'm guessing I don't get the 1% back, but for this month I get the 2% as well)

ETA: looks like last time it WAS a signature debit purchase, earning the extra 1%.   Why Verizon would give a discount for a debit card and then allow it to be run as credit isn't clear!
