FICO Score and new credit card app

Hi all,

I'm getting ready to apply for a new high end credit card. My FICO score with walmart reads: 680, not sure what it is on myfico.com, so should i trust that 680 score with walmart, or should i pull it from this site, before i apply?

Thanks guys!

Re: FICO Score and new credit card app

What card are you interested in applying for and what else is on your credit report (Other cards, AAoA, utilization, number of inquiries and baddies). All those fators play a role into determining if you will be approved or not . The walmart score is a FICO but isn't commonly used by many lenders

Re: FICO Score and new credit card app

i'm thinking in applying for a Discover card. i currently have a 37% uti. i have 2 capital one cards with a $350 and $750 CL, emblem card with a $325, walmart $900, old navy $600 (AU), sears $325 (AU). average age of accounts is 7 years and i have two CO (paid in full) from 2010 and ever since i have had a perfect payment history with no lates or any other baddie. i applied for Discover last August (denied for too many inquiries, too many open accouts in the last six months, and high UTI, and late payment (from 2010 paid in full)).

Re: FICO Score and new credit card app

How many inq do you currently have. I think you should get your utilization down as much as you can before you apply. I'm assuming you are applying for the Discover More? The utilization and the late payment may be the big deals but you can always call for a recon. Can you afford to pay your current debts down a little more?

Re: FICO Score and new credit card app

I have 5 inquiries with experian, 4 with transunion and 10, with equifax. All, except for the discover inquiries last August are one year old and other are about to fall off this October. Yes, I will pay the debt down to 1%-9% itinerary in the next two months. Should I wait to apply until then?

Re: FICO Score and new credit card app

If you can pay the balances on your card down in the next month or two, it will definitely improve your chances of approval by a lot. If you get denied, definitely call for a recon. Discover usually pulls TU (and sometimes TU and EQ). Good luck and let us know how it goes

Re: FICO Score and new credit card app

I didnt know discover pulled tu. they pulled eq for me. if you say the inquiries fall off in oct i would wait till then and focus on paying your balances down that way you will have a bump in lower util and another score raise with inquiries falling off but not much

Re: FICO Score and new credit card app

I got approved for a Discover More w/ $6k CL a week ago. They pulled TU and then EQ since I have 2 CO PIF over two years ago and some lates. You may have a shot but your income has to be within their sope and no recent lates (in your favor). My TU Fico was 710 (shown on approval letter) I have one inquiry on my  Ex CR from Amex. How did you managed to get a few inquiry on your EX CR. I'm sitting here asking myself who else, apart from Amex, pull Ex only. I'm looking for one more CC to decrease my Uil below 1%. It's currently at 7% (which is ok, I think).  I checked out whogavemecredit, but not too many CCCs pulling soley Experian. Any suggestion?

Re: FICO Score and new credit card app

OP will not get any extra points when they fall off in october. After 1 year fico no longer counts inqs,  when they fall off in two years no point gains. OP would of probbaly seen some after the first year.
