Fast Times at USBank

9 yr card closed by lender due to returned snail mail, no attempt to notify by phone or email, do have another open card with--quelle surprise, the same address.

Didn't notice until a few weeks after closure...actually, wait, it dropped off online profile which was odd but dismissed it as a site maintenance type glitch (Sunday) and didn't follow up right away.

Reportedly 'procedure' to 'reopen' require a HP and snail mail or fax request to reinstate account.

Wait what? They closed your account because something got returned via usps?

Re: Fast Times at USBank

US Bank closed my second-oldest card due to non-use.  They sent me a letter a week AFTER it was closed.

It was a Kroger card (and no Kroger companies within probably 500 miles of where I am now), and only had a $500 CL, so not heartbroken about it.  Still, not happy, either.

I meant will they be able to continue the card on like it was never closed so the history will continue to grow

+1

It may report for up to 10 years.

I've had closed accounts stop reporting before the 10 years was up, so it's not guaranteed (and if it falls off early there's not much you can do about it) but in most cases closed accounts do stick around for 10 years.  As long as they are reporting (open or closed) they continue to impact your AAoA for FICO purposes.

If the bank were to reopen the same account number (which in this case I personally feel they should) then the history would continue growing.  But if the bank refuses to do so (or the OP doesn't want to take the HP the bank seems to require in this case) then there would be no further 'growth' and the status will be closed.  However, the existing history may continue to report for up to 10 years in any case.

According to USB after a few calls and escalations to get past frontline csr who were not that helpful.

With the exception of the Quack card have nary an account closed by issuer even during the credit crunch, no change in nose bleed scores or clean reports, etc.

At least Synch reportedly sends a letter at some point. USB didn't give any notification there was a problem, or that the account had been closed which was actually a couple of months ago, looking a bit more closely at the time line.

Am not nearly as OCD with monitoring cbr as in early building, with an oldest account almost 30 and AAoA >10, still pull routinely and am vigilant but thankfully not much to fret about now, seriously USB?

To be fair, haven't really had any other problems to speak of with them and received CLI routinely on this account as recently as this past summer.
