Fastest Payment Method

I was just wondering if anyone had experience with paying online and what was faster.  My two options are to "pull" the payment from my bank through Chase's website or to "push" it from my bank through my bank's online bill pay service.  Which one of these tends to be faster?  Thanks.

Re: Fastest Payment Method

It really depends.

Pushing my payments to my "BoA" card from Chase usually takes about 2 days.

But pushing my payments to AMEX or Discover from Chase usually goes through from same day and gets hard posted by the next day.

But overall, from what I've read, pulling is usually quicker.

I have always just pulled it through. I would think that pushing it would be faster but I really am not sure. Good question, I am also curious about this

Re: Fastest Payment Method

My experience only but pulling the payment through the website has always been faster because the payment is posted the day I schedule it. If I push through my online bill pay it takes 2-3 business days.

Re: Fastest Payment Method

Pulling is the way to go for speed.  Pushing can be easier from a bill management perspective.

pulling is almost always faster, and it shows intent to pay the bill that the credit card companies can see so if there is ever a doubt it was initiated on there system.

If there is ever a question on a push you have to show your banking records. I only push payments if for some reason the credit card company isn't allowing payments at the moment and I really want to make a payment.

Re: Fastest Payment Method

In general I initiate the payment from the CC website when I can. It shows in the CC's system that day, even if it takes a processing day getting to the bank. It is easier to do everything from the bank's site, but I have had issues where the payments have gone lost and then cancelled (AMEX changed the address). Pulling all the way- ensures your CC gets it on their books that day.

This is what I have always done in the past, but recently when I made a large payment with Capital One to payoff my card, they held my available funds for 7 days.  I am hoping to avoid that issue with Chase as my limit is not enough for my monthly spend and I want to run everything through this card for rewards.

Re: Fastest Payment Method

I find it easier to pay directly from the creditors website.
