So far it's one of my worst cards. I called and sent email only to continue to get rejected for a CLI. The end of Jan will be my 1 year mark so I plan on canceling it at the end of Dec. I'm getting kind of tired of seeing on my credit reports that having low limit cards is affecting my score. Target($500) and HSBC Discover($300) is the last of my low limit cards. I hope you have better luck with this card than I am having.
My target is only $200. What are you complaining about?
HSBC = well, er... for lack of a better word TROUBLE!
Look at the BB threads. Remember that Orchard and Household are HSBC, too.
That was the first relatively good card I was approved for this year.... Well.. sort of. The offer I got was for the Discover Platinum through HSBC. This was before I thought about rebuilding my credit. I had only the one $300.00 Orchard card when I had gotten this offer. I was absolutely SHOCKED when I was approved, and for a $1600.00 CL too. It was while I was trying to find info on this card that I found aout about this site. I found that most people were writing about a Direct Rewards card... while mine said Platinum.. nothing about Rewards. I had been out of the credit game for so long, that I had no idea what a rewards card was anyway.
The offer I had gotten was for no interest for 6 months, I think, and no annual fee. I found it odd that I could not find this card on the HSBC website ANYWHERE. Then someone mentioned here that, that was just a special offer. Soon after getting the card, I applied for other HSBC cards just to see what would happen. Twice I was approved for this Discover Rewards card .. $300/$59 annual fee. Both times I accepted them because I had already called to see if I could combine the cards keeping the one with no annual fee. So I got a card with $2200 CL @ 14%. These accounts used to be administered by Direct Merchants Bank.. so I cannot use HSBC's home page to access my account. Also, they have made it undeniably clear that they will not consider customer requests for CLIs.
HSBC is stingy to say the least, but if you just want something to get you rebuilding.. and you will not carry a high blance, then it's fine to have one of these cards... especially if has no annual fee... but unerstand, they will not do a whole lot to make you happy. There are some here who have said they have gotten CLIs after having the card for a year or 2. I do not expect to see one until my card reaches at least 18 montsh. I am at 11 months now, if I get an increase at my anniversary, I will be very pleasantly suprised, but I am not looking for one.
Changingmantra....
That's good to know.... I've had an Orchard MC about 11 months with a $300 CL.... never been late on a payment, always more than the minimum amount.. Got the pre-approval for the HSBC Direct Rewards Discover in the mail and sent it back....I'm hoping for at least a $1000 CL.... my EX is around 600......Keeping my fingers crossed....
