Few questions about CLI's

1) So I know that Citi will explicitely tell you if a CLI request will be a HP or SP. I'm wondering...are Amex CLIs HPs or SPs?

2) Does Chase have a CLI request option? Is it HP or SP?

3) Will getting CLI reduce the chance I have on newer cards since I'll have higher exposure to a bank/overall CL is higher for my income?

Amex CLI's are SP.

Chase has a CLI request option. It's always a HP. They sometimes give out auto-CLI's, or mail/email offers where they will tell you that you have a SP CLI available.

Some lenders have been known to deny new accounts and CLI's because you have too much available credit. Barclays and BoA come to mind.

Re: Few questions about CLI's

your overall open credit plays a factor when someone is manually looking into granting you credit and the amount they grant you is based on your current exposure whereas if it's the automated system looking at it then a lot of times they'll get closer to your existing cards. of course there are tons of exceptions but that's decently accurate

Re: Few questions about CLI's

Ah good info. Thanks. I will actually tend to shy away from a CLI then since I do plan to churn and don't want higher limits to possibly hinder that.

Limits vs income can definitely be a factor for future approvals and its something that is often overlooked in discussion here. It is a very real scenario. You cant have infinite credit. It pays to be choosy when selecting cards IMO.

Yup. I was about to get caught up in the whole "luv button" craze (hate that term), but decided against it.

if you're churning then don't waste your time or the available credit

Re: Few questions about CLI's

Hello!
Amex CLI are SPs.
There is no CLI button for Chase. You have to call CS and they are HP. Recently, there have been some posts of people receiving auto luv from Chase.
I'm sure that credit card companies have an internal threshold regarding the amount of exposure (risk) they are willing to take for a client based on their overall credit profile. Best of luck!!!
