Hey Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum, been lurking for about 2-3 months now, absorbing knowledge like a sponge and its been paying off as my future blog will say On the road to 800!!
Quick overview to get you guys a good idea on where I started.
590's to very low 600's as far as scores.
Auto Loan with NMAC that I have been paying on time just short of a year, keep in mind when I got this loan I was a 515 score, shouldnt have gotten approved, but a favor done. Aside from that all I had was 2 charge off's one with Capital One the other with HSBC, which were back from 2005-2006 roughly. Oh and a SPRINT collection from 2006.
I started this adventure with credit cards fairly recently and score hasn't sky rocketed, but I have gotten quite a few credit cards, some are a given, some I don't know how I got.
Let me start from the 1st one.
Capital One Platinum <---7-14 day message, but I received a letter shortly after saying I got approved for a $300 limit and placed on the steps program which I have read many times about. I was stoaked it was my first card in a long time and suprisingly from Cap One.
That was my motivation to read more and try more, so I went with the obvious choice and got approved for an Orchard Card also $300 limit and an annual fee of $39 which I didn't mind much considering just 6 months ago they wanted a processing fee from me.
Here comes the really fun one, reading these forums I read a post somewhere that said if you have had an AMEX account before that was closed in good standing AMEX ZYNC card might be something to try with my low scores. I thought to myself I did have a GOLD AMEX before in 2006 that I was an authorized user on, so I thought why not. To my suprise I get approved!!!! with a hard limit of $500, but still approved. Keep in mind my scores are roughly around 590-610.
I took advantage of that and signed up for their credit monitoring service $1 first month only 13-14 bux afterwards all 3 twice a month you could pull!
Keep in mind that in between these approvals I have tried everyone else, it became like a game to try to get approved, many inquires at this point. More then 10...
I know it is a lot to read, but might be interesting for somebody that is in the similar position as myself score wise.
45 days after I got the Cap One card, once again from the useful posts of members of this forum, I took a shot and applied for the Sony Cap One card, to my suprise to get an instant approval for $500, making it my first prime credit card while still having the scores of 607 627 607 (via AMEX) <---didnt make much sense as everyone says that card requires excellent credit, I would love to hear feedback from others about this.
While waiting for the sony card, I applied for Walmart card and got approved $150 <---dont need the card, but love their transunion score once a month feature.
EXXON MOBIL gas card was my last one which to my suprise i received today after getting the 7-10 notice online. $200 LIMIT
It's been an adventure and I would love to share my experience with back door numbers and different credit card companies when I can, so maybe someone like me could get some benefit out of it. All this within literaly about 3 months roughly.
Feel free to ask for details, I am happy to share.

I have NEVER heard of AMEX approving someone for a zync with a 607 EX Fico much less ANY card product....

I think it might have had something to do with me previously have an AMEX account on their files authorized user or not it reported on my credit. They gave me a hard limit of $500, but I read that eventually goes away if you keep in good standing. Oh and I was required to sign up for auto pay right away, it was either that or my limit would have been $200

It is my most proud card next to the SONY now. Now I just want to get my limits up.
Who underwrites Exxon/Mobil?
Well I hope you absorbed patience from what is talked about in the forums. It is the key! Trust me, I am 44 and did not care about or understand credit till I was probably 40. By playing this game like chess I feel I have done alright. I know I could have made better moves, but I am okay with my 20 cards and 40.2k overall limit. You should have seen the look on the face of my boss when I told a guy I work with about my new cards and what my total credit is. It was a MasterCard moment... 4 HPs on my credit 11 Fico pts, 4 new accounts- estimate 40 points, look on his face... PRICELESS (pointless?)
And I would have thought since you are the singer of System of a Down, you would have a better credit rating
