I kinda feel like I got hustled
Took me a whole year to assemble 20,000 points now I got 13,000.
For MR, redeeming for merchandise is a good deal if you aren't ever going to redeem for flights or retail gift cards. If you like the merchandise, than it's a good deal. Not everything has to be about ROI all the time.
Use them or lose them. I had 60k points saved when Amex cut me off and I lost them all. I did have fun using points though. Free money per se. I bought a copy of Office, a shredder, an espresso maker, and countless gift cards over the past few years.
I don't use cologne. The only thing my wife likes and I prefer is Skin Bracer after shave, $3.79 a bottle at Walmart. I would never pay more than 5 bucks for perfumed water.
But that's just me. But if you like it and its worth the price to you, think nothing of it and enjoy!

I bought some perfume for my parents for Chistmas and they tossed in a small vile of that Lacoste and I was hooked from there!! Lasts all day.
I think redeeming for merchanidise is a good deal if you like the merchandise and the merchandise is given at a discount. I spend 9k points to get an Ihome for our kitchen... its something we enjoy and its not unusual for me to come home and find my daughter or husband using it.
The retail price of the unit was about $130

I know that sounds like a lot of work for that many points. But if you think about it, it's basically some free good smelling stuff. You acquired the points by spending what you would normally spend anyway, but someone gave you a free gift for spending your money. I would be quite proud of that cologne!

Why were you cutt off my AMEX? I lost about 150,000 when I was charged off by them in 2008. Now back in the fold
Wow! I guess I shouldn't feel as bad on my points. I used my Green for business purchases and consistently spent $2k-$12k or so monthly, with a reported annual income on the app of much less than I was spending . They sent me a letter before Christmas in 2011 saying I shouldn't be using it for biz purchases. Sometimes I would put our vendors' bills on there at $5k+ per pop and that was an obvious clue for them. Anyway I slowed my purchases but then ramped up this past summer. Right on the statement date they cancelled the card right in the middle of a biz trip. They warned me and certainly don't blame them any. I'll be back.
