Fingerhut Credit Limits?

Hi all,

For all those with a fingerhut account, can you recommend the quickest way of getting a high credit limit increase. Thanks

Re: Fingerhut Credit Limits?

The best advice I can give is buy something and pay it off gradually over 3-4 months. Once paid off you will see a credit line increase. I started last year with Fresh Start at $200 and now Im at $1700 and I hoping to get another increase soon.

Re: Fingerhut Credit Limits?

Me and my BF opened an account the same day March 16. Approved for $500. Both made a purchase.

Him: 1 payment and he got a $600 increase in May.
Me: 5+ small payments finally get an increase last Friday. I was like all it it took was one payment for him and I finally get it after making multiple payments.
Both sitting at $1100 now.

Re: Fingerhut Credit Limits?

  • Pay your bills on time, every time, and you will avoid late payment charges. Paying off your balance early reduces the total amount you pay in interest charges. You could also be rewarded with a credit line increase.
  • Pay more than your minimum amount due and you will pay down your balance sooner and pay less than you would by just making minimum payments.
  • Be careful to not always spend all of your available credit. It's wise to keep some available for those time when you really need to make a purchase.

This is taken from their site: http://www.fingerhut.com/content.jsp?pageName=CreditTips

Basically if you want a CLI from them or pretty much anyone DO NOT just pay the minimum. I mean you want to pay AT LEAST the minimum but if you charge something and you only make the minimum payments then that tells them you might not be able to afford paying more or the balance should you lose your primary source of income.

Try not to just charge something and pay it off right away. Maybe pay half of it mid month and near the end pay the rest off.

If you don't mind then just buy something and pay more than the minimum each month for a set amount of months until it is paid off. This will show them that you can afford to pay more and you can pay on time over time.

Thats why its not worth pursuing CLI's with them, IMHO. I just opened the tradeline to have a mix of revolving type and I could not really care less what the limit is.

Pursue CLI's with your bank cards instead - much more useful.

Re: Fingerhut Credit Limits?

I am not a big fan of theirs but my scores are so bad i am very limited at being able to get credit right now. I have a cap one secured and i know i can probably get more but dont want to tie up more money in secure cards. My scores are 500 across the board and i am not sure how long it will take to bring them up enough. I have quite a few baddies that will all clear off in about 2 years so all i can really do is wait. I wouldnt mind getting increase from fingerhut though as it may help my util.

Re: Fingerhut Credit Limits?

@Jt35 I honestly don't see the problem of paying the markup value of an item through Fingerhut. Everybody doesn't have the luxury of getting prime cards. I am grateful to Fingerhut, because if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have gotten my Cap1 QS card. And this was 5 months in and 2 CLI increases later. So use it as you see fit and the increases will come. Best of Luck!

Re: Fingerhut Credit Limits?

I concur with mnlewis and not all products are marked up 15% or how much ever, although some are, but that's where you have to decide if it's worth paying the extra. I comparison shop and was able to get a Samsung camera which was actually cheaper or about the same at other retailers through Fingerhut.
