First Nation Bank American Express?

Has anyone applied or recieved an invitation for a First National Bank American Express card? I recieved a "By invitation only" prescreened offer in the mail today and it came in a fancy black envelope. I'm a little confused as my credit utilization has been really high since December (Christmas shopping Smiley Indifferent) and my credit has dipped to the high 500's low 600's from high 600's low 700's. I don't know if this prescreened offer was screened before December or they are simply trolling me. Anyways....I been wanting an Amex card for a while but have been waiting to bring down my utilization. My credit cards so far are a Capital One Platinum $500 CL, Citi Bank Preferred $3,200 CL, Citi Double Cash $1,000 CL, and a Discover IT Chrome $1,200. I'm a little skeptical of the offer.....thoughts?

It's simply a marketing tool they send out to a list of people who meet general criteria, which was probably when your scores were higher. I wouldn't waste a HP to find out until you get your scores back to the previous ranges you had.

I received one of these last year. I went to their site and applied. I was approved after they manually reviewed my app. The card's rewards aren't stellar. They may have soft pulled you before your scores tanked.

They seem very conservative, so I wouldn't poke the bear if I were you. After your scores recover..go for it!

Why app for it if the rewards aren't stellar?   No reason to consider a card at all just because you receive a marketing "invitation to apply" type offer.  Look for the cards you actually want that are potentially in your range.

Perhaps you missed my point where I said I been wanting an Amex card for a while. That is why I asked. It's my first prescreened offer for an Amex card.

No I didn't miss it, the card will still be there when your scores recover. If they are as low as you state. I wouldn't chance it. They do pull EX by the way.

So if your EX report is good. Then spin the wheel.

Re: First Nation Bank American Express?

When you say you want an Amex card, do you mean just a card that runs on the Amex network? Or an actual card from Amex (issued by Centurion bank)?

Last App: 1/10/2023

Do you want an AMEX or just a card that works on AMEX's network?  Because cards issued by other banks just run on AMEX's network and don't necessarily have the perks and services that one comes to expect from Centurion Bank / American Express Bank.

Edited to add: If you just want a card that runs on AMEX's network, there are secured cards that do that (one issued by FNBO cobranded with SavingStar, one by USAA just off the top of my head).  So they aren't necessarily that hard to come by if you're just comparing them to cards issued by Centurion Bank.

Re: First Nation Bank American Express?

Why not work on your scores and then get a "real" Amex from Centurion bank ?
