First Post ! Q about Apple Card

Hello All,

I got approved for the apple card with a 2500 limit , with a 21.99% APR back in January. I have a credit score of around 706. I need to buy a new iPad Pro and the accessories for grad school so (1800 bucks) worth of stuff.. would it be smart to use what I have already (Apple Card) or apply to the Barclay card for financing it in chunks ? Would I even be approved for the Barclay? I don't wanna open that can of worms for no reason and have a hit on my credit !

Thanks

@Anonymous 1st I want to congratulate you for coming here seeking out advice, and educating yourself. Now, in order for others to help you with your journey, we will need some additional information.

  • 706 FICO 8, 9 or FAKO, is this EX/EQ/TU Score?
  • Total HP on each report?
  • Are any recent accounts open besides Apple Card?
  • Are you trying to finance this $1,800 or can you PIF when the statement balance is due?
  • What is your current overall UTIL across all your open unsecured CC's?
  • Are you prepared to take a temporary score hit if you apply for a 0% APR card and have limited CC utilization plus the age of accounts?

Re: First Post ! Q about Apple Card

@TheFIGuy

  • 707 TU / 720 EQ / FICO 8 721
  • 4 Hard Inquiries
  • 8mo (Capital One) , 3 mo (Apple Card) , 2 mo (Amazon Prime Card)
  • I probably can't PIF but if my Grad Plus loan goes through then maybe I am considering it
  • 4% credit use
  • I would love a 0% APR , I don't mind the hit.. I have (approx. 3-4 years of being nonengaged before we need to look for a place lol)
  • My average age of accounts is 1 year , 8 months .. Oldest 2yr 10 months (2 CCs) , 1yr 8 months (2 student loans), 8 months , 3 months, 2 months (some student loans spanning back 3yr 7 months)

Re: First Post ! Q about Apple Card

From the way you listed your scores, I'm assuming TU and EQ are from Credit Karma or some other monitoring service, and what you call your FICO 8 is actually an EX FICO score. Go to www.creditchecktotal.com and pay a dollar for a seven day trial to get all three FICO 8 scores, and then cancel the trial so you don't get entered into a recurring $30/month subscription. CK provides scores based on the VantageScore 3 model which are irrelevant for lending purposes. Use the service to watch your reports but disregard the scores.

Once you have all three FICO scores, please post up - we'll have a better idea where you stand to advise you.

Re: First Post ! Q about Apple Card

@Anonymous Thanks for breaking that down. Recommend listening to @Anonymous regarding getting your true FICO 8 or 9 Scores so others can give educated advice on your particular situation. Do you have access to any of the CU's in your area?

Some popular CU's on these forums:

  • NFCU - Navy Federal Credit Union (Military affiliation from family or yourself required)
  • BECU - Open to out of state members
  • PenFed
  • Etc. (Got lazy this morning)

Re: First Post ! Q about Apple Card

Hi and welcome to the myFICO community!

If it was me I'd try to ask for a CLI first from GS and used that existing Apple Card instead of apping for a new one from Barclay.

New cc TLs : 0/6 ; 0/12 ; 0/24 | HPs EX 3 EQ 3 TU 4 | AAoA 8y1m | UTIL 1% - 4% | $300K+ Total Limits

Re: First Post ! Q about Apple Card

That is such a good idea, I keep thinking because it's a newer credit card they won't be extending a CLI but I'm pretty sure they've already rolled some out !

I am looking into BECU and PenFed right now ! I have one closeby that my grandma has banked with since before I was born but I never put much thought into it !
