First Progress Identity Verification

Hi there

I recently moved to the United States and I'm trying to establish a credit history. I thought the best way to do that would be to get a credit card, so I applied for a secured credit card with First Progress since they say they don't require a minimum credit score. However, they said they couldn't give me the card because they couldn't verify my identity. I called their number and they said that I don't have a credit file (well, duh) and that I would have to have a credit file with Experian first to get a card. But, how do I get a credit file without having a card in the first place? This seems like I'm in a catch-22 situation. Any advice?

Thank you

This thread may help you get started:

Who do you bank with? You might want to try BoA but you have to apply in a branch.

Thanks for the link. I opened a checking and savings account with Chase.
