@Azza wrote:Man, yeah. What would you do with a limit like that?
Could you buy a car with cash using it? Do dealerships count as travel? Likely not, but say you bought a new Tesla model S, that'd be a tidy $2,100 in rewards lol
Most dealerships don't wat to pay the merchant fees and cap the amount that can go on a CC, but some people are able to negotiate to put the full amount on a card.
f) Take the full $100k as a cash advance, deposit it at BofA, and get a CC with a decent rewards program.
In an arena in which stuff like this becomes a matter of obsession, expect it to also become competitive

@Anonymous wrote:First year free as well. For a $100k limit, it's not bad in my opinion..just for the fun of having a high limit haha
But what do you do with a high limit?
a) Whenever you use the card: "What's that I owe? $34.54? Ha, I don't think that will be a problem, this card has a $100K limit!"
b) Online/paper: stare with love at the $100K limit
c) rejoice in the low util caused partly by the card....
You forgot
d) cry, scream and pout then post threads about how horrible the lender is when they close/lower the limit because all you used it for was the occasional $34.54 purchase

Yo I live in Portland! I have a First Tech down the street from my houseI've seen that card. It's neat, but it doesn't have anything super worthwhile for me to justify that annual fee.
FTFCU is a great business, though. Check out their cards!$75 Annual Fee for their highest card. What type of benefits do i get from World Elite Card and is it worth $75 annually? Maybe the $100k Credit limit
You would have to read up on it. World Elite is really targeted at travelers. If you travel frequently then it might be worth your while! World Elite is to MC what Infinite is to Visa. I personally wouldn't get much mileage out of the card, but it would be a nice, low cost option to slot in my wallet for travel after I'm out of the garden!
Odyssey can give discounts at some merchants, but there are generally a lot of other ways to get such discounts, and the same discounts are ususally available on no-AF WEMC cards. I know I wouldn't pay an AF for Odyssey.
I applied for Choice Rewards three years ago to have just a basic primary Chip and PIN card. I passed the underwriting and was tentatively approved for $20k at their lowest APR, but I had just moved and they rejected my membership on proof of identity grounds.
What did they ask for during underwriting?

A large share of my income is from investments, so they wanted a full tax return. In other cases I think they'd take a W-2 or just contact the employer. But they didn't like the address change and canceled my membership before I could get it to them.
Hello everyone...I don't find much postings on here about this First Tech Credit Union. Most postings are much older and they might not be applicable in today's situation. So please share whatever you know about this credit union credit cards like tips to increase chances to get them...and anything and everything what people should know before pulling the trigger for a credit card with them. I am sure it will help people which is the purpose of this site- helping each other. Thanks

@Anonymous - There are quite a few from 2020 which are still relevant, including the above thread.

DP: approved for the Choice Rewards World MC @ 35k with annual income 156k, 714 FICO. Just over 2 years out of Ch. 13, something like 8 card approvals the past 12 months, 20+ year customer with FirstTech including two used car loans, primary checking account, past secured card I dumped once I got unsecured cards. Card has 12 months no interest, 90 day balance transfer promo to go along with a $200 SUB. 13% interest after that expires (not amazing but beats all my other CCs by a bunch because, still coming out of CH. 13 with OK but not 800+ scores + two years of app-a-palooza), 14% interest if taken as cash advance (not part of the promo). No balance transfer or cash advance fees.
Yes, I know, the awards program isn't amaaaayyyzing (more like solidly below mediocre Capital One cards). The card was obtained for $200 SUB, limit padding while I dump some other chaff (because 35k), and this CU is likely a forever credit union for my main household account (checking is actually 1% interest bearing at up to 15k, and historically beats most high-yield savings accounts), so holding a CU credit card that has low interest, zero balance transfer fees and zero cash advance fees... well, this isn't exactly a credit card, more like a flexible line of credit given $0 cash advance or balance transfer that happens to have some credit card features.
Since I will have a step up in college expenses in the foreseeable future from community college to state university the larger CL and ability to balance transfer into the card (and fairly frequent 12 month no interest promos) can come in handy for managing expenses.

@digitek wrote:From what I remember, First Tech Credit Union is all about that annual income. They kind of cater to high income members, which probably explains the really high credit limits on those cards. One of the very few Mastercards available in the US that can be had in true Chip + PIN.
If your total CL across all cards is greater than about $200-250K you're outside of their target demographic and being approved for membership is tough.
Interesting, I didn't have an issue getting a card there a few years ago (2017) for C+P MasterCard for the win.
My own travel plans got cut short in a hurry when the company stopped their overseas office openings and I didn't make it to Europe anyway, but FirstTech for me has always been easy and fast and I like their UI, definitely one of the more modern CUs from a technology standpoint.
That said I went with their no frills card, I have no need for that size tradeline (think UNFCU offered up to 100k back in the day too) but I did max out their UW both in limit and APR.
UNFCU still has the $100K cap on their Elite. Mine isn't near that level but IIRC FinStar's is.
SDFCU also has a $100K cap on their cards (though the Premium Cash back "only" has a 5k minimum), and theoretically their secured card goes to $100k as well (I asked while I had someone on the line back when, they said it could, but no one seems willing to deposit $100k for security on a card with few benefits - go fig
).
Grin, actually someone on this forum did darned close to that on a secured card... and it got held in a judgement and swiped. I think the theory was it was a way to stash a large sum of money without it's being easily traced but whoops.
Would have been better to stick it in a non-interest bearing checking account at a big bank probably, same way one shuffles money around when the IRS wants to talk to you.

I remember that thread, didn't someone have like 40k or 50k and sdfcu took it and gave it to whoever had the judgement and then they had to pay the full balance on the CC right away?
For the record, sdfcu does not let people deposit more than 2k on their secured card theses days, or at least that was all I was allowed to deposit a year ago.
I would have gladly added 2k or so a month for the chance at a 100k card but now sdfcu doesn't do that, at least not with my credit scores!
