alright nope nope were not having a computer fight on a credit card forum.

+1  Buy what you want...no need to justify it here to anyone.  As for the commenter above about not using machines for long period of times... I disagree.  Right side my Mac Pro is my '06 Intel iMac that I still have lots of use for and honestly, I still kick around from time to time with my old '99 Blueberry iMac, '93 Centris 610, and my '96 PowerMac 9600.  Yes, I'm a Mac hoarder!   Smiley LOL

Re: First major major major purchase

I spent 15 years in TV production, although I have no recent experience (as in the last 10 years or so).

Just now I went to apple.com and chose a 15" Macbook Pro. I selected every single option offered, all RAM upgrades, storage upgrades, software options, etc. The total came out to $9752 with tax and shipping. If I remove the external RAID storage, which clocks in at $3299 alone, it comes out to $6164. That is the most expensive Macbook Pro you can buy right now. Other than including expensive add-on video editing software in the total, I can't see how the op can buy a Macbook Pro for $15k. Also, I have never met a professional video editor using a laptop computer to edit videos. If you are not a pro, you can edit videos just fine on a 2012 Macbook Air.

Saying all that, it is up to the OP to decide what he wants to spend his money on. Focusing on the credit card aspect of all this, if you can afford a $15k computer purchase, then your credit should reflect that and you should have no issue charging it to a credit card.

OP, you mention that $15k is about 70% of your income. That would mean that your income is around $20k. Seriously, you are planning to buy a $15k laptop while making $20k a year? Even if it lasts you 100 years, that is not a good idea.

Last time I tried, Amex was willing to approve a $50k charge on my PRG (it might go higher, but I didn't try). But then my income is about 10x of yours. I think you are setting yourself up for a disaster.

First, the OP didn't post a question seeking approval from anyone on how he or she is about to spend their money.  With that being said, the OP said they were purchasing a MacPro which is VERY different from a MacBook Pro (one's a desktop and the other a laptop and there is a big price difference).  And I'll mention that it's not that hard to get a MacPro to exceed $10k when customizing.

Re: First major major major purchase

Oops, my bad, I misread.

My attention wasn't giving op "approval", as I said it is up to OP how he wants to spend his money.

Op posted on a public forum and seemed to be in doubt if the CCC will approve him charging the purchase. If he is really making $20k a year and plans to make a $15k charge, I highly doubt it will get approved.

The mac pro is going to be updated tomorrow. Thats about 10-15k give or take. I checked how much over i can over my limit on my everyday and its about 13 and a half k. lol.

Wish me luck as to it doesn't ring bells. im paying this in full obviously. this is my first major major major purchase, i'm a little scared. its about 70% of my income.

but this computer will last me 15 years so......

Back to your original post lol....If you have a demanding need for the Mac Pro go for it, (most keep keep interchanging Mac Pro with MacBook Pro, two different beasts and product lines) just keep in mind, no computer is meant to last 15 years truthfully, can they sure with care but software usually limits that on hardware support/requirements in later updates. Now for going over your limit...remember that amount you go over isn't revolved...it's due immediately on your next statement. If you have a 10k limit, and go over by 3k, that full $3k and a certain percentage of your total balance is done on that next payment. You also come off better not going over, Apple website, can split cards on two debit/credit cards. Take that overage and put it on another card.

The update mit be a simple processor upgrade in that case it will be less which will be fine. to the point its not over my limit.

Re: First major major major purchase

I'm not 100% what the deal is with Amex but you will probably have to pay the over limit amount in the first statement.

Not you, you didn't some of those post in between were lol...My response was tieing everything together...FYI if there is going to be an update on the Mac Pro, it's likely to remain user upgradeable on just the RAM and storage if it says in that barrel form...>Good to know it's not over your limit...your intiial post made it sound like it would be
