Re: For those of you having difficulty getting approved

No, they never get rid of the AF.  They did reduce it for me and I literally had to jump through hoops to get that done and that was when it was under First National Bank of Marin about 4 years ago.  I haven't heard of many people who have been able to even get a decrease in the AF.  Although one day I may get rid of it, right now I will keep it for the history until some of my newer cards age.

Re: For those of you having difficulty getting approved

I got CreditOne Card 2 1/2 years ago with $200 CL and I closed it last month when the CL is $700. It is a good credit builder card. I never had any problems with them. I am kind of surprised, they are not trying to keep good customers by giving them a better offer or graduating them into a different tier. I was guilty when I close the account, but I dont want to pay the monthly fees every month. I highly recommend this card to those of you who can not get another card. Thumbs UP from me.

I think that they are pretty clear on their function of being a rebuilder card. They make their money by collecting the annual (and monthly) fees, and once you can do better, and you don't want to pay fees, they'll let you go without regret. There are plenty more strugglers out there who will replace you.

Really, I'm not being cynical, although I guess it sounds that way. At least they're not as crass as First Premiere. They remind me of the jewelry store and catalog store accounts that are pretty straightforward: you buy our stuff periodically, whether you much want it or not, and we'll report to the CRA's, helping you get a better credit report, as long as you pay promptly.

Just a pretty straightforward business deal!

Re: For those of you having difficulty getting approved

I agree with you hauling. But they could try to sell the account to a different company and have them take over the account. Like the Mortgage companies they sell accounts to each other. I kind of feel guilty to close the account after taking their help. I have no complains against them. They kept their bargain and did help me to rebuild my credit.

Re: For those of you having difficulty getting approved

I highly recommend Credit One as a rebuilder card as well.

I still have mine and am using it to report on time monthly payments but plan on closing it this summer after it fully served its purpose.

Re: For those of you having difficulty getting approved

Do they report to all three bureaus or just to whatever the bureau of the week is?

Re: For those of you having difficulty getting approved

lol, yes I really want a Fingerhut account, but CitiBank is the issuer of this card and I got denied twice! Not a credit builder card. Creditone is a good bank to start with. Orchard, I just closed that card 03/25/08, had it since 02/01/2007.

Even First Premier, if you can just get past the first month fees. I closed all of my monthly fee cards, and I didn't care how old or new they were.
