It not a easy card to get. I was still declined with good scores 750 range( no baddies). I got approved for penfed instead

Whoa! That's pretty scary. I should probably just wait for Penfed next year and use BOA Cash Rewards in the interim. It's 3% gas. SM is sd and gets no luv from this broad. Smiley Mad

I would definitely wait for Penfed.

If you still want Fort Knox after that, go for it. Be prepared to jump through some hoops. I don't have Fort Knox, but I seem to remember that some people have experienced a lengthy application process.

If you have Sallie, why wouldn't you give it love?

Personal preference not to do business with Barclays. I don't agree with their tactics. SM is sd where it will stay. I'm going to app Sam's MC next weekend. Will be able to kill two birds with one stone. 5% gas and 3% dining. Awesome card!

Yes rewards paid out once a yr. I'm ok with that. Have a nice fat check to look forward to every year! Smiley Happy

DD always seemed like the easiest option to me, but if you don't have split DDs through your employer, it could be a pain.

I can certainly split DD's with my employer but doing so is a pain versus having it all in the one checking account I've been using that is not a PenFed account.  The MMSA is much easier for me since it's minimal requireent is a one time $25 deposit but it's a YMMV matter.  There are multiple qualifying products and each has to decide for the individual.

Because it's just a card.  If you have a card fetish, that's fine but not all of us do. Smiley Very Happy

Seriously, though, I do have a Sallie Mae and never use it for gas.  The points and minimum redemption requirements are much more of a hassle.  PenFed automtically and fully redeems rewards each statement  The cap isn't an issue for me but could possibly be for someone else.  PenFed has no cap on gas rewards.

Ok, let us know how it goes.

I know for myself, when I start looking at my gas spend, it seems likely that Freedom and Discover cover half the year (unless they overlap of course) but with other cards like AMEX and the fine print of the Sams card, the Fred Meyer where I usually find the lowest price, most convenience, is one of those "supercenter gas" stations that is excluded. That may change, I am testing my EDP, but it makes it a wash for me if I try to go to any other station with 5% to 10% higher prices.

I will definitely let you guys know how app goes. I just have to renew my membership. Lol. Hopefully I get a sp preapproval at desk. Expecting to be over 750 TU when report updates balances next week. Smiley Happy
