Re: Found another use for Care Credit....

Okay now I see why so many people like it! I really wouldn't need it for personal use like doc visits or anything like that since I have very good insurance. But the 0% financing on pet vaccines and surgeries makes it a card I want in the forseeable future...Having 3 dogs adds up every year in vet bills. Just got done paying all of this with my Amex and PIF because it was my PRG (needed to meet spending bonus).

Don't automatically expect to be able to spread payments over your choice of 6-12-18-24 mos. Always check with the provider about the deferred interest plans available on a particular service. My vet, for example, is only 6 mos. over $200.

My understanding is that the amount must be over $200 to be eligible for deferred interest, and the actual offering (6 months versus 12, 18, or 24) is actually up to the provider, at least to an extent. My own dentist indicated to me that when somebody takes a 0% offer it does 'impact' him, although he doesn't mind since it allows folks to get extra services they might not otherwise be able to afford.

I was rather shocked (pleasantly) that I had so many options for a purchase of only $670... but from what I've read on here (and on the Care Credit web site) the offers certainly do vary from place to place. To be safe always ask, since YMMV is very much the case.

This should be considered as a "financing" card, not your typical charge card. If you have two different services on your card, for example, you will be paying on 2 different plans every month. My $900 vet bill will be about $150/mo. I had a follow up for $86. So to avoid interest, my next payment will be $150 plus $86. You can't just accumulate charges.

I should have put the $86 on another card, but I was so happy my furbaby was OK, I wasn't thinking.

@I am planning to have dental work done next month @$600 12mo and surgery @$3000 18mo in March.  How do the 0% int payments work? Do you pay them separately to ensure you get them paid off during their 0% no interest timeline?

Re: Found another use for Care Credit....

Awesome indeed. I wish the dermatology places around me would allow non procedure items to go on the card. Maybe its for the best!

Also using just 1 hard inquiry got my limit doubled and really helped my utilization.

I would REALLY love this card if it was like amazon/lowes/sams. No HP for CLI would be insane.

Just divide the total cost of procedure by number of months.. (600/12= $50 per month for 12 months; or 54.54 by 11 mos just to be sure its paid off early with no threat of paying deferred interest, like if you forget...)  Deferred interest will kick in if you miss the minimum monthly payment or pay late!!@  (3000/18=166.67 per mo for 18 mos or 17 mos @ 176.47).  For a total payment of $231.01 every month (****17 mos).  If you still don't understand this, make sure you read the terms and conditions of the card. Smiley Wink

*****with the excepion of the 1st mo... 54.54 will only be due.

Re: Found another use for Care Credit....

No tattoo shops though. I'll pass.

Jk. TY pizza for getting word out on great features.
It's hard to say no to store cards and financing card when you have 12 month option. Also I know that myself and most of us here will have a higher credit score 11 months from now and will have the power to score a good bank card that has a balance transfer option, makes everything worthwhile. crowns are expensive suckers I need two myself and can't take off work right now

I called a CSR and asked, because the terms in the agreement are a little confusing when it comes to multiple purchases. The statement is not much help either. My statement says the min. payment is $33 on my nearly $1k bill, but I know I need to pay $150 plus $86. I think it's probably ok to pay the $33 plus $86, but that just makes it harder for the following months.

My dog didn't make it. His tests were looking good, and he seemed perfectly normal, up until an hour before he died, playing ball and chasing squirrels that morning. I feel better about spending the money,  because I believe the medications gave him a couple of good quality of life weeks.

I have found out that you can get lasik under $500 an eye pretty easily, so long as you arent above +3.00 or worse than -3.00

The price doesnt always include aftercare but its usually not that expensive. Plus, you can do the aftercare at a dr closer to home.

Only bad thing is worsened night vision for 6 months.
