Found a recon # on this forum to inquire about my app status (paypal MC). The CSR told me that they rarely do manual reviews and that they let their computers handle everything. Worst part about this is, if you put a cell no on any GEMB-backed card app, the computer will attempt to check if that number maps to the residential address on the app resulting in a denial (if you dont call them sooner) based on any RANDOM reason. Ontheotherhand, if you put your landline no. on the app, the computer wont encounter any "exceptions" and will proceed to process your app properly.
My app was neither approved or denied because "the number (cell) didnt match my address". As soon as the CSR typed my landline number, "the exception disappeared" and my app was ready to be "processed again". Strange, but true..
EDIT: the CSR told me that this thing can be circumvented by updating the CR with the cell no.
That's a bunch of crap i have a bunch of accounts with GE an has always used my cell. Who really use landlines now days anyway.
I agree, I opened 3 accounts with GEMB this year, I put my cell number on all 3 accounts and all 3 were approved.
i have to agree with the above posters. all i have is my cell, & i have several gemb cards.
I opened a GEMB account on Monday using my cell phone number as my contact number.
I agree, I have 3 GEMB backed credit cards in 3 months and I used my cell as my number on all my applilcations. No problems with the phone numbers. I have found threads with GEMB having trouble verifying identity with certain apps with cell numbers, dont know why, maybe its a random computer thing? Mine went through fine, all 3, instant...
Not to go off topic....Is the Chevron Visa Card good? I have no experience with GE MONEY, I have Excellent credit but how are they as a card issuer to deal with? Heard bad and good, your experience? Thanks for the help

GEMB uses a third-party service to map your cell phone number to your address. Even if your cell phone number is on your credit report, if it doesn't map using their service they will decline your application.
Hi, I dont have the Chevron Visa, I have the Chevron/Texaco Gas Card, I didnt realize there was a visa till after I got approved, probablly would have tried for that first. I have 4 cards with GEMB, I actually dont have excellant credit, I am working on rebuilding, so I can imagine that they would offer you some great apr and rates if your fico scores are good. What I have noticed is when they like you as a consumer, they really like you and they back a good portion of the retail market, I started recently with JcPenney in May, 200 credit line after 6 years no credit and rebuilding. Then, I got a Walmart card with a 1200 credit line, GEMB backed, and thats my fav store for groceries and more, .03 cents of each gallon of gas. The same day I applied online for the GEMB chevron Texaco card and was approved immediatly for 350, which is great for me because I am rebuilding, but if you have excellant credit, your limits should be through the rough and you should be going for the Chevron Visa. I also just got approved for Paypal buyer credit through GEMB for 500, so as you can see, once they like you, they really like you!!
As a company, I have read mixed reviews online, with any company I think you have the negatives and positives. I havent had many negatives myself, but Imsure you can google and see. They are pretty good with clis, or at least they have been in the past. I had them 7 years ago (as I am rebuilding) and they were set to auto increase every 4 months or so and from reading the boards, they have been giving credit limit increases pretty well. The Chevron Visa offers 10 cents off per gallon and other benefits, nice .... I am a happy GEMB customer and I hope this helps answer your question.
