Freedom/CSP

I have heard and seen little blurbs about this combo (along with an INK if you can get it) being the ideal or great thing when it comes to points and so forth.

I searched the forums and again see small blurbs here and there about the "greatness" of this combination.  I was just wondering what makes it good?  Is it the 5% couples with the "normal" earnings of all of them and then the points being pooled, so to speak?  Is it the value?

I am just a little confused and wondering because DW was recently approved for Freedome at 2k and CSP at 5k and want to ensure that we take maximum advantage of this

It's because you can transfer the Freedom points to your CSP and therefore you end up with many more points, because of the Freedom's 5% earning on certain categories. It is a great combo for anyone who will leverage the points towards travel. If that's you, go for it.

It is 5x UR points, not straight 5% back. If you are going to redeem for cash, then yes 5% cash back. However, transfering to CSP and then to a travel partner, you can conseravtively get $0.02 per point, turning those 5x points into 10%+ back depending on the travel partner and value of the flight, etc. that you bought with points.

just to be clear this value redemption is for transfering to partners, not using the CSP portal. The portal will give you an extra 25%, so 1UR turns into 1.25UR

Ya even .02 center per point is conservative on travel partners.. That is why UR is so powerful if used correctly

I'd add disclaimers before saying $0.02/point (2 cpp) is a conservative estimate.

I agree it's possible when you're using higher classes of travel. With lower classes (regular economy) or low-fare flights such as Southwest, I couldn't find valuation beyond 1.6 cpp or so. 

I do not need to fly first class wherever I go; so I'd like to value the points against what I'd have paid for cash elsewhere. The "used correctly" term is vague.
