Frustration with Capital One

OMG!!! I just received a letter from Cap1 stating "due to fraudulent activity your acct has been permanently closed"!!! Are should serious?? I called the number on the letter last week and of course the person handling my acct wouldn't b available until today. So I called and you know what they said? "After doing an extensive security check we are closing your account but its not because you have been charging too much or anything but you can reapply if you like and that's all the information we have"!! I'm flaming at this point. So... After having the capital one secured card for 14 months with low utilization and paying on the card twice a month EVERY MONTH and NO AUTHORIZED user AND my card being in MY POSSESSION EVERYDAY you guys can close my account?? "Yes ma'am I'm sorry...we reserve the right to cancel a card at anytime at our discretion if you have a credit on your account we will be mailing you a check in regards to your initial deposit....

Im so mad right now. They closed one of my most positive oldest accounts...I'm in the rebuilding process and I had a secured capital one with 500$ I have a Walmart with 500$ Merrilck with 1100$ orchard with 450 as well as 1st premier with the same...I know these are all skin own trade lines given for people with poor history but I was young when I messed my credit up and I'm working to fix it..2 years ago I had a score of 445 TU now I have 636 TU. It just ticks me off that they closed my account because now that will look bad on my CR

Re: Frustration with Capital One

That sucks.  Glass half-full outlook: That positive account will stay on your report for 10 years.  You're very close to being able to get mid level unsecured cards, so once you're able to break through you won't need anything to do with Cap1 ever again.

Re: Frustration with Capital One

That Crap1 secured card has been nothing but garbage for me so far, over 2 months and not even reporting. Can't wait to get some real accounts soon.

Re: Frustration with Capital One

They claim an "extensive security threat" I would approach them in a polite and inquisitive manner and just play it dumb.

'oh geez, I'm so worried, what do you mean a security threat? was my identity stolen? should I file a police report? Did I do something wrong? why would someone steal my identity?"

playing dumb and the ID theft route might make them more lucid with giving out info as to WHY they had a red flag go up on you. You might not get anything out of them, and in the end they don't HAVE to grant you credit and can retract the offer of credit at anytime they wish - but usually honey attracts more bees than vinegar.

If you can't get anywhere with that number, I'd try contacting the Cap 1 exectuvie office (search for the CEO's email address) and just write an email saying "I was a loyal customer for ____, I used my card wisely, I didn't do anything that was risky or even would be considered questionable and yet capital one decided to close my account and not give me any info. I spoke with _____ and (s)he wasn't able to give me any reason. I feel singled out and manipulated. I've been trying to (re)build my credit and now I feel as though I've been taken advantage of by someone I had trusted to be a partner in my life long journey. Blah blah blah fulff fluff fluff, praise of Cap 1 follwed by how your now feeling like a common street whore...sincerly you.

You should get  a response by someone...it may not open your account, but they may be able to tell you WHAT caused the red flag and why...heck they may even give you a CL on your other cards with them as an "im sorry"
