I recently opened up an account with Rooms to Go GE Capital and was given a CL of $4,000. Since my purchase was greater than this amount, I wanted to request a credit increase to around $10k so that the card would not be maxed out. I called the backdoor number, and they said they could not service Rooms to Go accounts.
So I called the actual card number... big mistake of course. I went through their automated system and was granted a credit increase of $2,630, up to $6,630... but I was hoping for something closer to 10k and also wanted to make certain they didn't do a hard pull for this.
So I called again and made sure to speak to a CSR. First guy was very nice, said he believed it was a soft pull. I thanked him and asked if there was any way to increase it further; not because I want to run the card up but just to keep the utilization ratio down. He told me he was going to transfer me. The next person I spoke to asked what type of limit I was looking for; I said around 10k to keep my ratio down. Then I said only if it can be done with a soft pull. She then told me that they already did a hardpull and I was denied.
Needless to say, I am infuriated. Good thing is, my limit is at least 6000+, so that's a lot less I have to pay off to keep my ratio at 30%, but I did NOT want a hardpull for something this stupid. Since I didn't actually authorize it, can I fight it? Is there any way to have it removed? When I told her I didn't authorize it and asked to speak to someone else, she just hung up on me. Also, is there any chance they did a hardpull for BOTH requests? I think I'd literally try to sue them if that happend.
Is there anything at all I can do?
Thanks as always. You guys are the best.
That's what I was afraid of. Is it possible they did TWO hard inquiries since I technically requested twice? I didn't know that those automated systems could do hardpulls. Especially when they only asked for the last 4 digits of my social.
I'll try the goodwill method of getting it removed. Can't believe how rude the CSR was from the get go. Even 1FBUSA's CSR's are nicer than that.

Unfortunately not all GE cards are SP's. most of the furniture, CareCredit type accounts are usually Hp CLI's.
Asking to have it deleted will not work since you did request a CLI.
+1
Concur with 09Lexie and enharu - although it will probably be a bit of an uphill battle to have the inquiry removed since this was not their error.

It's possible that they did 2 hard inquiries. In the very unlikely event that they triple pulled you twice, that would be a total of 6 hard inquiries.
I will cry. Not really, but inside.

I had a HP deleted by GE this month, if you ask nicely they can delete it
