Getting Back In With Discover After CO

I wrecked my Discover It secured back in 2017, $300 CL, was up around $440 with fees and everything. They charged it off.

I paid it off in full a year ago. Does anyone have their story of getting back in with them? How long did it take? I've no issue if they only extend me a secured card. I have a savings and checking account with them currently and move about $20 a month into each from my primary account at NFCU.

I'm actually in the exact same situation haha would like to repair my relationship if possible,  discover it secured card was  CO years ago and still on my credit report. Only a $400 balance I almost just want to call them up and if there's anything we can work out if I pay what I owe. It's been tough trying to remove it from my CR since discover is still the original creditor.

I simply paid it off. I'm hoping once my score passes 700 I get back in. I'll ksep trying every time it jumps 10 points, the prequal isn't a hard pull and you only have to wait 8 days on their end between tries.

once it fell off of my report, the pre-approval tool started pre-approving me as opposed to denying me for previous bad relationship, I also paid mine in full

Re: Getting Back In With Discover After CO

@tebtengriI got back in with them after burning them for roughly $3k in a BK7 after they sued me.  I was 4 years post filing date when I was approved for a secured card ($400 down), but I was 10 years from DOFD.  It took 2+ yrs for that case to work it's way through before I filed.  Once I got the card it took 7 months to unsecure and was given a CLI to $1800 and now is at $2300 a little over 2 years in.  It was a great card for kicking of my rebuild, and I don't regret it, but unfortunately now that Discover no longer allows product changes I have less use for it.

Re: Getting Back In With Discover After CO

Discover and Cap One are pretty forgiving.  They both sued me for ~$3500 back in 2017, couldn't find me to serve me (I had moved and they had my old address on file) so they dismissed the lawsuits.  The chargeoffs fell off my report in 2023 and I applied for and received cards from them both.

Re: Getting Back In With Discover After CO

I had a discover charge off years ago,  I waited until the discover fell off my credit report but I still wasn't sure I would get approved because I was 5 months into chapter 7 bankruptcy.   I applied and was approved for a secured Discover card,  It's been four months with Discover and so far so good hoping to graduate in a few more months.

Re: Getting Back In With Discover After CO

From my previous DP:

"I know I'm digging this back up, but just as a DP, I currently owe Discover $9K that was charged off in 2018. Managed to get it dropped from my reports and the Discover app still shows an account that has a "Special Condition. Please call us for more info".

My credit score is in the mid 700s now, so I decided to try the pre-qual for fun. Every time I tried up until the day the account dropped off of my credit reports, I received a "Status of Existing/Prior Account" denial. This time I was pre-qualified so I decided to go for it.

Application went pending, Discover asked for a 4506-C. Took about 2 weeks, and after a final validation call with the Fraud department, I was approved for a new Discover It with a $7k limit. The account shows up immediately below the one that says "Special Condition.", which is kind of hilarious, but I will attempt to settle at some point since they let me back in.

My inquiries and newly opened accounts are through the roof on top of things, so I'm not sure if I'm just a weird outlier DP."

Since then I've gotten another Discover Miles card with a $10K approval, after yet another 4506-C request.

I have actually had a similar experience.   Charge off in 2016, fell of my report last summer, check for preapproval, it showed multiple cards, applied in November,  boom - 8k limit.  Score was Fico 8: 720
