I have paid a $2000 limit card down (Barclays) to a zero balance however it doesnt even report until the end of january and I hate waiting. I have 4 other cards all with zero balances reporting. Anyone ever gotten approved in a situation like this?
Ive gotten approved for Discover(4k 15.99%) and CSP(5k 15.99%) with about a 80% total utilization. However as others have stated wait till reporting so you can get the best of terms and CL.

Since you've already paid, you can call and ask the ccc to do a mid-cycle report to the bureaus. Not all companies will do it, but most do and it's no big deal. Nothing to lose by asking! If they do it, a couple of days later your CRs will look shiny.

I asked several months ago - they didn't at the time. This is probably my only complaint with Barclay. It can't hurt to ask now - maybe they've added this service.

One maxed out card won't result in automatic denials if your credit file is excellent in other ways (long history, perfect payments, great credit mix, etc), but your chance of approval and the quality of the approval will improve.
I have to think this is correct. I've gotten approved for TONS of cards (BoA 123, Discover IT, Chase Ink, Amex Green, and just about every GE/Synchrony card out there) with anywhere from 50-90% UTIL and literally 5-6 cards maxed out (90%+). However, they've all been approved with low limits and the worst APRs, etc.
