Getting high enough credit line for BT?

Hello all. I'm trying to get my finances in order now that I'm about to get married next year. I'm looking to apply for a new card that would give me a high enough credit line to transfer 6500 from Discover It and 9600 from Chase Explorer. These are at 90% utilitzation and want to roll them into a single BT card if possible. My scores are 726/665/713 from Eq/Tr/x and combined income with my fiancé who lives with me of near $180k.

My only hesitation is that I tried the Chase Slate card last time, with score around the same last year, and got approved for only $800 (even after calling and asking for higher limit) based on my sole income of in the $90k range (has since increased to over to low 6 figures).

Anything that would be an issues in obtaining a card with enough to roll in about 16k?

Re: Getting high enough credit line for BT?

High utilization is a huge fear factor for lenders right now.  If you are pulling in $15000 a month gross, I assume you have the option to just pay it off over 3 months somehow?

As long as you're riding near maximum utilization, creditors are going to be concerned about doling out more credit.  Keep in mind that some older FICO scores considered anything over 85% to be maxed out, so if you're at 90% or more you may already be triggering the maxed out consideration.

Yeah I guess I should mention that the 180k will be effective June 1 after my recent promotion. But in regards we've been putting money towards orur wedding which is pretty expensive considering we also live ina HCOL area... our rent is $2400 for a 1 bedroom.

I guess for now my plan could be to get those cards down in uitilization and then look for some BT card. We just wanted a bit more breathing room.

You're issue is definitely going to be the utilization. If there's any way you can pay down even 1 of the cards before looking for a BT card that would be a good idea. I know you're saving for a wedding, been there done that, but in the grand scheme of things a wedding is 1 day, you're financial freedom is a lifetime (I sound like my parents so I apologize). I would definitely try to do something to get a dent in that utilization. Good luck!

And in terms of a BT card, i did one through PenFed, got a $25,000 cl and transferred $5000 to it. My scores are below, my utilization is at 8% currently.
