Getting rid of a QS to get Venture?

Hey guys, I'm a former user which lost his user or password so I'm not new by any means, this forum has helped me to grow a lot and once again I come here to find answers that will aid me on my credit adventure Smiley Tongue

So about 3 weeks ago I went on an App spree and got some decent limits, 5K HH Amex, 3K Freedom, 3k DCU , 3K BOA and 4K  BOA, as usual I got carried away and continued to apply to more cards and ultimately was denied by discover and citi double cash ( I received a prequal on the mail so I figured I would try).

Lately I've reading that Cap1 is being really generous with the Venture so I want to give it a show but I want to make the HP's worth it, meaning I don't want to get a toy limit i n case I'm approved,  I currently have 2 QS  with 2.3k and 1.5k , these cards started as credit builder cards with 300 limit so we know how Capital One treats those accounts, I can’t get them to increase my CL nor reduce my APR. I read here in the forums that some people say that you can only have 2 CC with  Cap 1, I don’t know how truth that is but I’m thinking of canceling one QS and apply for the venture in a few weeks, thoughts?

I also what do you guys think about my chances of getting a good CL if I go that route, my Scores are in the upper 600 and lower 700 (according to Barclay Fico  and Discover Fico) but I do have a lot of recent inquiries and my AAoA is like 7 months, with the oldest card being 1.5 years old, util is around 25% and income is 75k,

Re: Getting rid of a QS to get Venture?

Welcome back!

It would seem likely, based on others experience, that your history with CapOne will get you a decent Venture limit, I'm guessing $10k. Depending on your usage history with CapOne, it could go up to $15k. As to multiple cards, I think you aren't at your CapOne count limit yet, with only two.

High Bal Jan 2009 $116k on $146k limits 80% Util.
Oct 2014 $46k on $127k 36% util EQ 722 TU 727 EX 727
April 2018 $18k on $344k 5% util EQ 806 TU 810 EX 812
Jan 2019 $7.6k on $360k EQ 832 TU 839 EX 831
March 2021 $33k on $312k EQ 796 TU 798 EX 801
May 2021 Paid all Installments and Mortgages, one new Mortgage EQ 761 TY 774 EX 777
April 2022 EQ=811 TU=807 EX=805 - TU VS 3.0 765

Re: Getting rid of a QS to get Venture?

Try the prequal tool for the Venture. If they offer, app for it.

The Venture, Venture One, and QS Visa don't have the two card restriction (like the QS1, platinum mc, etc). The "prime" Cap 1 cards gave a five card restriction.

Honestly, even the two card restriction isn't that strict. I've gotten three in the last few months. A secured and then two QS1s (though I had to verify my identity for the second QS1).

+1

The card restriction limit is based on the levels. I too have two QS1 and a secured -- that I'm debating on closing since they gave me a $300 auto CLI.

Keep both your credit and your body in top shape!

I would keep your card AND get the Venture. Cap One allows only 2 lower tier cards per person, but 5 high tier "prime" cards per person so you are perfectly fine there. Check pre-qual site, if it pre-quals you for Venture you are golden. Also as others have said you will likely get either $10k/$15k SL. It's $5k minimum so you don't have to worry about any lower than that. When I app'd I only had two cards (One at $1.75k CL, One at $700 CL) and I was instantly approved for $10k. I've been with Cap One for 4 years with perfect history so that helps too. Good luck to you with the Venture Smiley Happy

Re: Getting rid of a QS to get Venture?

I would second most likely keeping the QS and obtaining a Venture. The Venture is only a full value 2% with travel redemption. By keeping both, you maintain the flexibility of a full 1.5% cash back redeemed other ways, and the 2% when you have travel expenses. Just my opinion.

Re: Getting rid of a QS to get Venture?

Thank you all! I will follow your advice and keep the QS's I tried the prequal and no dice, so I guess I'll wait a couple of weeks and try again.
