Google Wallet and Rewards Cards

I used Google Wallet to make a grocery store purchase for the first time. I was curious to see how NFC works with my phone. I used my AMEX BCE card for the purchase. It shows up on BCE as Google Wallet B - so it doesn't appear it will give me the 3% back for supermarkets. I guess for now I'll stick to only using the reward cards themself to get maximum rewards instead of the 1% that I'll probably get on this purchase instead of 3.

Has anyone tried Google Wallet for purchases, or Apple iPay and confirm we lose the maximum rewards for purchases?

You will earn bonus points with Apple pay, not Google wallet. Im waiting for samsung pay though, best 1 out of the 3

Many report getting rewards with Google Wallet but Google doesn't guarantee them given how Google is the merchant for such transactions.

You may not earn certain reward points and benefits for purchases through your card issuer's credit or debit card rewards program (such as overall spending and purchase protection or insurance). Keep in mind that for purchases where Google Wallet facilitates the payment and then charges your selected card, the amount charged to your registered card is charged by Google Wallet and not by the merchant where you make a purchase.

  The only way to confirm is to wait and see if you get the rewards.  Though you can search to see if someone has used the same merchant, same card, etc.

Apple has worked with the banks on rewards.  Apple's site indicates that you will get rewards just as you would with your cards.

Apple Pay works with most of the major credit and debit cards from the top U.S. banks. Just add your participating cards to Passbook and you’ll continue to get all the rewards, benefits, and security of your cards.

My own experience corroborates that but I've only used Apple Pay at one grocery store.  You can also refer to prior discusison on Apple Pay and rewards if you want to refer to the experiences of others.

Subjective, just as best is on any topic.  With any set of options there are pros and cons for each option and which option is best can and does vary by person.  Samsung Pay will be a nonstarter for many just as Apple Pay and Google Wallet are nonstarters for many.  Things are rarely one-sized-fits-all.

Not true. You earn rewards with Google Wallet when you use any card but American Express. For example when the Freedom had groceries as a category, I was buying my groceries with Google Wallet and got the 5x points just fine. Amex didn't want to cooperate with Google while they were working on the rival Isis/Softcard wallet. Now that Google bought Softcard, this will hopefully change soon.

How so?

Samsung pay is compatible with all credit card terminal, not just the one with nfc. So you can use it every where credit cards are accepted

Emulating a magstripe is an insanely bad idea from a security perspective. The entire industry is trying to get away from magstripe, while Samsung is re-implementing it? Wow.

Samsung Pay is currently less convenient than using a credit card, whereas Apple Pay is more convenient.  From what I understand you still need to open the Samsung Pay app to use it.  With Apple Pay you just hold your thumb on the sensor and hold it up to the terminal.  No need to unlock the phone or open an app.  That seems like something that Samsung could easily fix though.

I have the Note 4 so I'll definitely try it out when it's ready. Thanks for the heads up.
