In the mail today I received a prequal offer from US Bank for Cash+, with a set APR instead of a range. I already have this card but may be possibly be interested in picking up another, if possible.
A few questions: how reliable are US Bank prequals? Also do they pull TU, EQ, or EX? And last, how long does it take to app after a credit freeze is lifted? Thanks!
ETA: originally typed this on mobile, so retroactively correcting the autocorrect, lol ![]()
I just got one for the Cash+ this week too. Straight up set 14% APR and such. I wanted this card eons ago but long since dismissed it and this prequal although it would been approved.
Your preapproval has a number with it and they are usually solid for an approval. Your siggy looks to have a strong profile so hopefully if you do go through with they give you an acceptable start line.
Others can clock in with their opinions for you since some have US Bank cards (even recently) and can better help share their experience for you.
Good Luck.
In terms of inquiries that affect my FICO score, right now I have 0 TU, 2 EQ, and 6 EX (soon to be 5 EX next week). I know from prior research that US Bank is inquiry-sensitive, and I saw that they pulled EQ when I apped for this card previously. Thinking about it a little more, idk if I should unfreeze my reports and go with the new app, since on the earlier app, I first received a denial and was only approved on recon, even at the time I had near-800 or 800s FICOs across the board. And even on recon, the highest CL I got on it was $500 and US Bank still refuses to budge even after a year and near-perfect FICO 8 scores. Plus as an unintended consequence, it might give me slightly less incentive to put my regular spend on the cards I'm using atm, at least in the fast food category for example...
@galahad15 if they only gave you a 500 limit on the other card you have with them i would probably pass even though you have a strong profile and little amount of inquiries. They either like you are they bucket you in small CL purgatory. Just my take on it. I reconned a 1500 limit and it was a nope and I said you really expect me to be able to do anything with a 1500 limit when my other cards are 25-35k? I said I would just collect the bonus aka meet spend and sock drawer the card since they weren't willing to work with me and that is what i did.
They love some people and others they don't so much. A banking relationship certainly helps or a mortgage. Alot of people without relationships have had decent luck and others more-so have had very low limits. Depends on whether you are a gambler or not? ![]()
My first Cash+ was originally a Cash Rewards with SL of $1000 which got an auto increase to $1500. I auto-pay and put quite a bit of spend through it for cell phones, fast food and restaurants. My scores are all above 750 with nothing negative. AAoA is a bit short (hovering 2 years maybe?) as I've added a bunch of new accounts in 2016 including this one. I had two new accounts May of this year and two November of previous year as the most recent accounts/inquiries.
I got a pre-approval via email with a set APR for the Visa Sig, and got an instant approval in August with a SL $14,000. They pulled TU for me although my first card with them was an EX HP. I had 4 inquiries in the past 12 months on TU, and as far as US Bank knows 5-6 new credit accounts (including PenFed PLOC) in the past 12 months. This preapproval came with $150 bonus for $500 spend.
I just received a preapproval via post with another set APR for the Cash+ Visa Signature a couple days ago but this time for the 5.5% cash back, 2.5% cash back and 1.5% cash back for the year promo. Should I go for it? lol
After a considerable amount of thought, I ended up deciding to app for the US Bank Cash+ prequal offer 2 days ago (as the extra 0.5% cashback offer for the first year for 5.5%, 2.5%, and 1.5% cashback depending on the categories was just too good to pass up on, lol). Called the application status automated phone number this morning and found out that I was approved!
US Bank didn't list the specific SL though, they just said I would receive the T&Cs with the card within 10 days.
ETA: I was approved with a TU FICO 8 score of 815 and with 0 inquiries within the last 6 months for TU.

Very sorry to hear about the denial
J/c, are you going to try to recon? (For the first Cash+ card I applied for in 2016, I was initially denied, but then approved on recon, so you may hopefully have some luck as well if you decide to go that route?)
Update: I received my new Cash+ card in the mail yesterday. When I reviewed the T&Cs that came with the card, I was very (pleasantly) surprised to see that US Bank had given me a SL of $24k!
That would actually be my highest-ever revolving CL, and second-highest all-time CL, the highest being the $25k CL I used to have on my Home Depot store card before they gave me a CLD to $5.1k some years ago for non-usage. Another reason I was surprised was because this is my second Cash+, and the first Cash+ was given a SL of $500 which US Bank still won't budge on giving a CLI to, lol. I definitely hadn't expected the $24k SL on the new card, knowing that US Bank tends to be a very conservative lender. Still, no complaints out of me though... ![]()
