Got email from AMEX

I got a preapproved offer via email from AMEX for the Hilton HHonors Platinum, when I went to the link to accept the offer I get the "
The offer for which you are trying to apply has expired. If you are still interested in applying for an American Express® card, please submit your application by mail. "
Has this happened to anyone? I don't want to flat out apply for the card only if its pre-approved.

Re: Got email from AMEX

I think AMEX is pulling back on their preapprovals when you consider all their recent CLD and FR on even their best customers.   I was softed by them every month through Aug and got a pre-approval for one of their products each month.  They didn't this past month and when I went to check their website to see which preapprovals I still qualified for, it said none.  This despite my credit going up.

Re: Got email from AMEX

DW constantly gets pre-approvals for HHonors via e-mail and Jet Blue via snail mail. I get preapprovals for Blue.

Re: Got email from AMEX

Right now, the website has me pre-approved for Blue, Blue Sky, and Starwood. I just got a snail mail yesterday on HHonors.

This just happened a week ago. When I go to "Apply for a Card" and then "By Viewing Special Offers", they're just sitting there, looking at me. They say "Accept now", where as the Plat (as if) says "Apply for a card."

I'm very wary of so-called pre-approvals, but I will be very interested if these puppies are still around January 1. (Going for that free year thing. Smiley Wink )

It would probably be more fun if I ever went anywhere, and had the opportunity to use any of these things. Smiley Tongue

Re: Got email from AMEX

If I were you I would not apply.

They are drastically reducing CL's on their CC's/revolving accounts, I had a 20K CL and they reduced it to 6K. I had a 5K CL and they reduced it to 500 dollars. I made a payment six days late, they said this was not the reason, and I have submitted my credit report to them via fax.

It is not worth it to me. That is JMHO.

Re: Got email from AMEX

Amex has been acting really weird for a while now. If you aren't comfortable with the idea of showing them your taxes, and having purchases declined for no reason with an account in good standing, I'd stay away.
