I am not liking BoA though because not only did they return the payment but they also charged me a fee. I still have my Chase account so maybe I will go back to using that one more. Chase pays everything for me even if I don't have funds.
For future reference, it's really much more efficient to initiate a payment from BofA's bill pay to your Amex account. BofA has the best online banking platform of any major bank. Just select Amex on their vendor list, enter account #, request ebills, and you're all set.
A friend just had something similar happen with his amex. The impact was minimal and amex basically acknowledged that things happen. After three months of ontime payments he got a 10k credit increase so I wouldnt over worry.
Amex blocked both of my cards due to the returned payment. I find this so crazy being that my payment was not due till 4/8. It's not like it was past my due date. I received an email from them saying that I didn't have to schedule another payment because they would try again the following day. I called them and they called my bank on 3 way and confirmed that the payment posted to my account and that there were funds to cover it. The amex rep then unblocked my accounts. I asked if this would affect my future increases and relationship with amex and she said she can't garantee that my card will not be closed? I'm like are you serious??? Wow. She said it's likely that it will not happen but that she has seen it happen. This scared me so much. Amex is so crazy. Also I asked about my spending limit for my amex green and when she tried to put 10K just as a test it prompted that I had to speak to financial review?? I was ready to cry because I read all about FR here! So she transferred the call to a rep in the financial review team and they asked me questions about my employer and so forth and then said I was good to go but that due to the returned payment my spending limit for the green was adjusted accordingly.
I did that once with my BCE.. weirdness with my bank account. All i did was call the CS, explain the situation and really (since it was a one time thing )no adverse action was taken. I was not late with the payment, andI fixed it the day after it happened.

Sorry to hear what happened, but being the fact that it is a new account they didn't want to take any chances. I'm sure if your account was seasoned with good payment history they would have shrugged it off as a one time deal thing. At least you were able to get them unblocked. Give it time and your spending abililty will go back up.
