If you really can’t control yourself, could you have a trusted family member take possession of the cards and change the password to your online banking?

Ha! Bad credit runs in the family, so best not put these cards in anyone's hands if I can't trust them in my own! Smiley Wink

There's some great advice on here, so thanks to all of you! I know credit history is important. One of the two cards I plan to keep open is my oldest CC, got it when I was 18.

The rest that I want to close are all from a couple years back and I know they're going to auto-close anyway. When I first got CCs, I was not using them but for a small charge here and there. I used to be SO responsible with credit and I was just trying to boost my score. Now, I've got so many that "rotating" them is more hassle than it's worth. Case in point: My Discover (also opened when I turned 18) recently auto-closed because of non-use and so did an Amex I got ~2 years back. I'm sure the 2-3 random store cards I got are close to closing, too.

I think my long-term strategy is to keep my oldest, high-limit accounts open, but I can't handle rotating all 7 here. Handling 2-3 will be easy. Maybe I'll let the rest auto-close? As for now, I have closed the $500 limit Cap1 card, the other four are frozen and I will keep them open at least until I pay them off, and decide from there.

Thanks everyone! I should hang around here more often, there's a ton to learn! Smiley Happy

^^^ that last statement is gospel. Stick around and read before closing your cards. You may learn why we are all in this, and find you can earn rewards and control your impulses.
