I'd like to request a CLI from HSBC online. I did so with Best Buy in June and it was a soft. When I hit the CLI request it stated
"In order to process this credit limit increase request, we may obtain a current copy of your credit report. To authorize this request, click the "Submit" button below."
Will it also be a soft if I hit submit, or a hard? I don't want a hard but I would like to get my CL higher than 1K

That mayb a YMMV kinda' thing, When I hit HSBC up for a CLI this past spring I got the same page, I didn't get a hard inquiry and I didn't get a CLI either, Just an immediate, 'We'll let you know in Seven Days of our decision' message, which HSBC had to have qued up waiting on me to hit submit 'cause it didn't even hesitate to pop-up.
Mine was Denied due to 'utilization', Which means, since you are not using your HSBC card, why do you need a CLI from us.
Definitely a YMMV thing. I hit the submit button w/ the same 'warning' and rec'd an instant CLI w/o a hard pull; however, I'm convinced that my HSBC card tends to be a bit more prime than many of their cards. (It's a Union Plus Mastercard w/ a 6k limit and very little drama.) I was auto-cli'd w/ this card from 1.5k to 4.6k before I finally asked for a CLI on my own.
Good luck!
OP,
I guess it depends on which type of card you have. I have the Platinum master card and I've received that message a couple times and they always soft me. Even when I spoke to them over the phone and requested a CLI, it was a soft.

I also have the Platinum MC w/cash back. Though I think the cash back is only 1% and have no idea when I will be able to redeem it. I guess I'll just have to decide how much of a risk I want to take. I'm going for a mortgage in what I hope will be April or May of 2009.
I'm just at the point where I know my credit is good. I'm responsible with it and my money on a whole and while I know it's up to the creditor, I feel that if they want me to use their card it needs to have a high CL, so I don't have to worry about util.
And HSBC is my 2nd lowest CL.
