HSBC Questions..

I came across this..  Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation = HSBC?  Wow.

Second, I have found a lot of posts about HSBC not being CLI friendly.  However I have an HSBC card that frequently gave CLI, started at 1500 now at 4600.  I don't think they ever did a hard inq when they increased my limit, but I'd like to request a CLI and was curious if they did a hard or soft.  Any ideas?  (And yes, I did several searches trying to find this information.)

Re: HSBC Questions..

HSBC is a huge company-
Thier world HQ is in London

CLI's and terms depend on the tier when you get the original card-
I had 2 "Low tier" cards that were never going to do anything for me so they were closed-

So HSBC has prime, mid and sub-prime cards-

They have a product for everyone- I bet your online LUV  button is not disabled like mine were-

Re: HSBC Questions..

Thanks for the response.

I just can't handle a 'hit' on EQ or EX.  Softs are fine on EX or TU.  They'll see butterflies and puppies.  If they were to pull EQ they'll see mean faces and scary spiders.

Re: HSBC Questions..

I have an HSBC card.  I have gotten requested CLIs without a hard.  That being said, they generally warn you that there MAY be a hard so I jsut don't ask anymore.  Not worth it to me.

Re: HSBC Questions..

Hey, Peas, nice hunting! From the HSBC website:
1865-1899

The HSBC Group is named after its founding member, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, which was established in 1865 to finance the growing trade between Europe, India and China.

The inspiration behind the founding of the bank was Thomas Sutherland, a Scot who was then working for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. He realised that there was considerable demand for local banking facilities in Hong Kong and on the China coast and he helped to establish the bank which opened in Hong Kong in March 1865 and in Shanghai a month later. (etc.)
And as Timothy said, they are now headquartered in London.

I also vaguely remember the P&O Steam Lines from my young days when we moved to Hawaii. We moved there before the 747's came on line, and sailing was the way to travel. We sailed on the Lurline (Matson Lines.) But anyway, I think the P&O was still a major steamship line then.

Re: HSBC Questions..

I have HSBC.  they started me at 1000.  and also their orchard card with one hard.  they just mailed me cards out of the blue.  I'm not sure but I think it was TU.  I had to beg for increase after three years and they gave me 500. with exorbitant int rate, and they pulled hard  Orchard gave clis but charged af.  I have closed orchard and am sock drawering hsbc.  they are foreign bank with strange practices.  I also had car loan with them.
They also wanted to know why i wanted an increase after 3 years with them.  duh.

Re: HSBC Questions..

Whenever I requested a CLI they hit me with a soft, but as Tim says it depends on which one. It does not seem like you have the uber sub-prime. I too receive CLI's like clockwork.

Re: HSBC Questions..

I have an Orchard and an HSBC Gold Card (given to me after having Orchard for a year) with no AF, and better ters overall than the Orchard.  I would consider it one of their mid-products.  The orchard product says to call when you request a CLI, the HSBC card has a luv button right on the website.  I am scared to touch it as well because of that warning.  Specifically, when anyone has used the luv button, I think the question is whether or not it pulls a hard.  I know that there is a good chance they won't when you call, so I have called and asked for a CLI and specifically asked the CSR if they will pull a hard or a soft and the CSR has pulled a soft.  I think that is the way I would go.  The website may be programmed to always pull a hard if you request it.  Or not...I don't know.
