I went to the HSBC preapprover site, got preapproved, applied and was denied for being outside the service area.
Has this happened to anyone else? When I called to ask why I was denied, the guy said I am outside the service area. When I asked why the preapprover would preapprove me for a card I can't possibly EVER get because its OUTSIDE MY SERVICE AREA, he said I should apply at A DIFFERENT ADDRESS, WHERE I DON'T LIVE. Honest to god, the guy said this (?????)
What the heck?
OP- I saw a recent post on another site about this happening to someone. I'm not sure if it was resolved, but I can check to see.

Where is this HSBC pre-approval site?
You can go to the HSBC site and click on the 'start now' on the card you would like to try for. I don't believe it will allow you to do a pre-approval on the AMEX one, but most of the other's like the cash back and weekend card they do.
I dislike them in a manner that I cannot explain on the forum. I feel they same way about them that some others on the forum feel about AMEX.

I had that happen to me when I applied for my First National Bank CC last year. I used my military PO Box address and they told me to use a relatives address. I gave them my mom's address and received my CC. After my mom sent it to me I went online and changed the address.
I used my regular street address. I only applied b/c I don't have a master card and thought it would nicely round out my credit portfolio (auto, home, visas, store card). I HATES Amex so I thought this was a good compromise. Now I'm smacked with the stupid inquiry for a card I was never going to get. If they denied me for credit worthiness reasons, I could accept it and go on, but since they say I'm outside the service area, it really, really steams me. As if their stupid computer didn't know I was outside the area when they preapproved me?
UGH!!
