HSBC verify identity

I just applied for HSBC platinum mc,and it said that i was preapproved for some of their cards . So i choose what card i would like to have . When i submit the application it says that they need to verify my identity ,and there were almost 6 questions to choose from to answer. Even though they were asking me about my EX wife info .Smiley Surprised
Finally after i answer all thier questions it say they will respond to me by email .
Is that normal process from HSBC ? , and is that mean YES or NO ?

Re: HSBC verify identity

I just accidentally (long story) applied for a Best Buy store card, which is issued by HSBC. The online app, which I thought was for a soft, didn't go through. I called to finish it, and they asked if I had had any professional licenses (electrician, private investigator, etc.), and they asked what city my son lives in. (He has a BB store card.)

This seems to be their way of making sure that a misspelling of a name, or a mis-keying of a SSN, doesn't mix your history up with someone else's. I suppose in this day and age that we should be happy. Smiley Indifferent

Re: HSBC verify identity

The same thing happened to me when I applied for the Cabela's Club Visa this past weekend.  I got done with the app and the little clock came on the screen for about 30 seconds with the caption "your application is processing"  Then it asked me some multiple choice questions about my neices birthday, age and then my sisters age.  After I answered them, I got the "Congratulations you're APPROVED" message...lol.  I think it's just another layer of security.  They ask you questions you should be able to answer that aren't asked on the application to try and trip up credit thieves.  It's pretty slick if you ask me.  It will probably help stop Credit theft if all CCC's start using it.  (Notice I said "Credit Theft" not identity theft.  Your identity is never stolen, you're still here, your name is still the same, you still have to pay taxes in your name, they still put your name on your paycheck.  It hasn't been stolen if you still have it.  It's CREDIT THEFT.

Re: HSBC verify identity

When I called to find out what the problem was, the CSR verified that they had already pulled a hard. So in for a penny, in for a pound. Might as well finish it up.
