Have a problem, need help ....

Ok, long story short. I got my Barclays Arrival+ that came with the sign up bonus of $3000 for 40,000 points. I met the signed up bonus when I used the card to purchased 2 international tickets last month for my brother and my dad. I redeemed the point immediately and applied it toward the credit balance. But unfortunately now, my brother's work got a big project coming up and he couldn't go on the scheduled vacation anymore. So my problem now is, I am gonna initiate a refund from the airline. How is this going to work with Barclays? I have already redeemed the points and that the reason why/how I met the 3k spending was because of that 2 tickets. What will happen if I request a refund from my airline ? Do I pay barclays back the 40,000 points ($400) dollars? I apologize in advance if any confusion - typing on iPhone.

I would request that the refund be in form of a "gift card", or a check if possible from the airline.

I don't know if the airline is willing to do that. As most places, if we used a credit card to pay, it'll be refunded back to the card used.

I've just read their refund policy and it says, "In order to protect your right,refund money will only be sent to the original credit card used to purchase this ticket." So I am out of luck.

Meeting minimum spend with refundable airline tickets is a big no no. If you didn't know how to meet spend via other means you shouldn't have signed up for the card.

When I first signed up for the card, I have no idea I would be using it to purchase the tickets. I have the card for more than 2 months before my brother and dad decided they wanted to go on a vacation so I was like, why not use my card - that way I can earn the bonus too. Fast forward 3 weeks after purchasing the ticket, my brother texted me and said he couldn't go anymore because of a work project.

Find an alternative towaeds a refund straight to card. Maybe YOU go on a trip instead?

Barclays will charge back the points. So they will take back X amount back from the statement credit that you would not have been met with the 40k sign up bonus.

Is there anything equivalent to the cost of the ticket that you can charge to the card?
